Bala, so sorry for your loss. Take your time to grieve and look after yourself first and foremost. My dad died suddenly 3 years ago and I still miss him every day x7

To All
thank you so much. I cannot express what your kindness means to me. I cannot speak to anyone in my family as their grief will likely hurt too much. I know they are supporting each other and that my Mum is surrounded. Being able to come here and unburden some of what I feel has been a god send. Thank you.
I did save some money today. I cannot get on with G Maps and had to go somewhere this morning. Pulled out the old sat navs which wouldn't work and so was contemplating how much it would cost for a 'new to me' one.
Lightbulb moment.....downloaded a FREE APP !
Also picked up a free (freecycle) framed print that I absolutely love. Uncommon painting of a lady in red dress with cello. The owner listed it over 4 weeks ago. I must have unusual taste as I almost couldn't believe that it hadn't gone. I love it.
Hope to spruce up sitting room for christmas. Frugally as is possible. This is a start.
have a wonderful day

Sending hugs, bala.
Frugal things this week. Have started putting thermal wallpaper in the recesses around the kitchen windows. (2 foot thick walls). Using a large tin of paint to keep the smaller chest freezer closed, the lid won't stay shut without it. Still picking food from the tunnel, yesterday got a cucumber, four peppers, a cabbage and, from outside, two tubs of raspberries.
Take care all, mumtoomany.Frugal Living Challenge 2025.10 -
Bala it’s a little community here, always someone with a wise word and plenty of understanding posters x
eating out of the freezer with some determination this week. £12 on shopping today to ensure I do. Friday I’m going to the new freezer shop place so hoping to get all the odds eaten. I did buy reduced chicken and froze it for next weekend. I fancy curry so that’s sorted 😀
We’re having Christmas early as youngest is away travelling with her man over the entirety. I’m quite excited 😆 I’m all bought and wrapped so no effort to bring it forward.Life happens, live it well.11 -
Hello all. I have been away for far longer than anticipated. Life got in the way. Hoping to slide back in. Need the solidarity and support.
Bala, so sorry for your loss. I lost my Dad nearly 4 years ago and it still feels a shock. You take the time you need for you. Be kind to yourself.12 -
Daughter has offered me her phone as she has had a new one, I had her last one a couple of years ago so it would be daft not to upgrade mine for naught!!
I'm decluttering next week, I see people do one item the first day, two the second and so on for a one month challenge, but I'm doing it for one week first as since my eldest and I had a big declutter here a few years ago, and I haven't really bought an awful lot since. I helped clear my mum and then stepdads house after they died and there was so much stuff, that I decided I would not put my children through that and anyway the majority wasn't wanted/needed by any of us as we hadn't got the room and only chose small personal things, so I'm hoping I will only do it for a couple of weeks at most!
I don't think I've done much else, just had a fridge bottom risotto for tea tonight that turned out rather tasty!

I try very hard not to buy fesh meat at full price. And try not to eat too much of it either.
The other day I bought a lage packet of minced chicken reduced to 1.65.......specifically for Tiggy. OH blitzed some veg, I chopped some more into small pieces (to keep fibre intact) and then added chicken when veg was cooked. It ended up like a broth which she couldn't get enough of. 2 days in and she is still loving it so I cooked another batch for her tonight which will feed her tomorrow.
Have often wondeed if cooking for her is costly but worked it out to about 70pence a day for good nutrtious food. Was pleased with that. So was she......

Look after yourself bala and take your time.
I have realised recently that our meat consumption has gone down. The amount we used to eat per person has gone down by about one third to a half. Also, the actual amount eaten has also gone down by about 25%. I just wish the weight would follow.
I'm in the process of freezing apples as I never have much success storing them long term. Terrific crop of bramleys and Norfolk russets this year, pears not so good, but I've managed to pickle some for use at Christmas and to give away as presents. The next job is to pick the medlars and make jam once they have softened. It's a fair amount of work but saves on the grocery bill over the year.11
