Shower Screen: cannot remove scum and scale

Options
Hi - This is a last resort to ask the MSE community for help.

Have a shower screen that has a scum that will not budge. Have tried all the domestic cleaners. And just tried the ZEP product from Screwfix at £7 per bottle that is supposed to beat all supermarket variants. All failed. Tried vinegar and bicarbonate. Fail. Tried The Pink Stuff and a scrourer. Fail. Sellotaped half a lemon to the glass and left overnight to see if the citric acid would melt it. Fail.

I think because we used one of those Shower Clean sprays it has actually put some sort impervious coating on the glass that nothing can penetrate. I used to think Weetabix baked onto the bowl after a dishwasher cycle was the hardest substance know to humankind, but this beats it.

Any ideas?

I've had decent results with kilrock shower spray , available from Wickes , b&q etc , a green scourer and a pair of rubber gloves . Spray glass , rub with scourer , leave for 10 minutes and then wash off. May need to repeat

Have you tried a melamine sponge, sometimes called magic eraser?

    They're really good.

I also use limescale remover and leave it on for a bit before using the magic eraser.

Yes. And also a Brillo pad(!) taking a risk that the wire wool would not scratch the glass, which of course it didn’t lol.

We were, and I have a theory that whatever is in that stuff is part of the problem!

  • When I scrub in the shower, using the shower gel, I always rinse round with the shower head after each turn, including the glass door. Once I week I use the spray cleaner, such as flash on door and tiles.

    Never have scum in there!
