Really depends what aspects of the location you find important other than being close to the airport/motorway. Close to parks, schools, trams/transport, pubs/restaurants etc and budget. You seem to have already discounted the nicer parts of South Manchester? Maybe look at Altrincham including Hale, Bowden. Or Cheadle, Wilmslow, Heaton moor (plus maybe the rest of The Heatons).1

It's a nice, but expensive part of the North-West, but where to choose might depend on where you both need to travel to for work. It gets very congested at the normal commuting times, so you need to be careful to position yourself for easy access to the places you need to be able to get to.
There is a wide choice of locations from towns with a good range of services to villages/hamlets and isolated properties. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.1 -
Have you looked at Knutsford at all? Great little place with fab places to eat and drink, independent shops and the glorious Tatton Park right on your doorstep.1

I would look around the M56 southern corridor, as within 30 minutes of the airport, and can get some nice areas around a few of the m56 junctions like Wa4, Wa6, Wa7 for example.1

If you like long walks with the dogs you could look at the Delamere Forest area - is mid Cheshire rather than East but is within 30 mins of the airport.1

My son lives in Cheadle SK8
Its a lovely area close enough to Stockport Railway Station.
Cheadle has a lovely High Street0 -
We live in Manchester City centre and are currently in the process of buying a 4 bed detached in Poynton (SK12). It all depends on your budget and how important being able to live within walking distance of a fast connection to the city centre is to you.We chose Poynton because of the decent train service and access to green space, also considered Bramhall and Wilmslow for the same reasons. Originally considered Handforth, Cheadle and Gatley but we wanted something slightly more rural and I didn’t like the centres. Knutsford and Alderley are nice but Knutsford gets a lot of plane traffic overhead and the train service to Manchester is slow for both. Romiley and Marple are slightly further out but great value for money if you’re not bothered about restaurants etc.I’m from the area originally and know it well from our recent search so if you have any specific questions happy to answer.1

Not in your suggested postcodes but Urmston has been really improving over the last 5-6 years and there is still some value to be had. Town centre with new bars and restaurants and good primary schools and a grammar.
Straight onto a motorway junction on the M60 and short drive in to Manchester Central0 -
Look all along the south M56 area , as has been said Delamere forest area is fabulous for dogs, cycling, walking all on your doorstep0

Rail links into Manchester don’t factor highly on our list of must haves as we have no real need to go into the city apart from maybe the occasional visit for leisure. If there’s one close by it would be viewed as a convenient bonus but definitely not a necessity.
We have ruled out Cheadle for the same reasons you stated above.Bramhall Village seems to have the right vibe as do Wilmslow and Alderley Edge but it’s so hard to properly judge places during these strange times we find ourselves in!
I haven’t come across Poynton but will certainly add it to the list of places to research!
It sounds like your search is/was similar to ours. I would focus on Bramhall (near the park and Moss Lane areas, avoid Dairyground and Australia estates), Woodford, Poynton and Styal. All are on the new airport link road so have good access to the airport and motorways, but aren’t too built up and have nice villagey feel centres with a few pubs/restaurants/shops etc and places to walk.We didn’t consider Poynton originally but when we went fell in love with it - it has a ‘shared space’ centre that gives it a really nice vibe and it’s close to Lyme Park. I’d stick to around the park and the Jones estate if you decide to look there - also Bloor are building a new estate (Kingswood I think?) just off the airport link road which we went to look round last weekend, looks lovely if you don’t mind a new build!0
