Does BT have to honour a verbal agreement?

Hi all,
I recently renewed my broadband with BT and was told that if I was to take out a family SIM deal as well then I would get a reduced broadband price. I accepted and took the deal. However when I received my first bill it was no where near what I had agreed so immediately complained. BT have been back in touch and have listened to the recording between myself and the BT employee. They have admitted that I was in fact offered a deal that is not in place. They are currently trying to figure out what to do next but my question is, do they have to honour this verbal agreement?

Well if that's what you were told and what you agreed to, then in principle it should stand as (with a couple of exceptions) verbal agreements are valid, but often fall down because nothing is documented (although calls are recorded, which sort of takes care of that).  Did you get an email confirmation of sorts that said about the deal too, something in writing?

Short answer is no - mistakes can happen and a company isn't obligated to honour something that was offered in error.

Hopefully they come back with a good offer as recompense.

But looking at it from a customer's point of viewing, you agreed to pay the deal agreed, so either they honour it or cancel the contract without penalty
