Both your girlfriends had minis?  What a coincidence.  From what I hear though if you got caught out and one grabbed the wrong car key it would operate either of the minis so you wouldn't get caught... ;)

ISTR the Yaris got a more conventional dashboard with the speedo directly in front of the driver from the 2011 model onwards. Having said that I have driven a couple of the older model with the central speedo and it's fine, you just get used to it very quickly.
  • My first car was a 1937 MG TA. The rev counter was bang in front of the driver, while the speedometer was well over to the left, in front of the passenger. I often wondered it they had been accidentally fitted the wrong way round.

No, they were that way round by design - because in motorsport the tacho is far more important than the speedo.

  • I owned a Mk2 Yaris. Depending on model the speedo, in the centre was/is either a digital readout or, in the one I had an analogue style gauge.
No issues with that at all. As mentioned, my old Minor 1000 speedo is in the centre. No problem.

Spoke to a MG owner many years ago and he said the same ,years ago  the engine revs were more important than than road speed.
