It's calculated based on earnings received during your assessment period.

Yes, each month your UC award is calculated based on the earnings you have received in that month. If your earnings go up and down, your UC will go up and down to compensate.

I certainly will. Hopefully I will hear back tomorrow on my journal. One other question - I mentioned that my take-home pay fluctuates monthly. The figure they have based this on I presume will be my December pay (I get paid on the 7th and haven't seen a payslip yet). Will the award be calculated monthly depending on the pay that month? My November pay was lower than this.
It is based on the amount received during the assessment period so this statement should be based on the amount you received in November. It can’t be based on money you haven’t received yet. The figure used by UC and your pay received will different if there are non allowable deductions included in your pay (such as a student loan repayment).

Compare the amount UC have used with your payslip to see if you can match the amount.

  • The figure they have used doesn't match any of my recent wages and says "based on information provided by your employer". I presume wages have been submitted ready for payday on the 7th, but so be able to confirm when I get my payslip.

As already explained Information about your next pay, even if it were available, is not relevant to your existing UC statement. The statement takes account of money UC believe you were paid during the assessment period.

if you are willing to post a breakdown of your November payslip we may be able to explain it - understandable if you don’t want to.

  • Just an update on this to say what an absolute nightmare they are to deal with. I have chased everyday and put information on my journal. The people on the phone are very helpful, but all they can do is send a message to the case worker. I was promised an answer and payment on the 8th, but still have not had an update. It is clearly their mistake for not including my children in the calculation, so I am baffled why they cannot recalculate and correct the problem. I have called again today and they have said I should have an answer by Monday. I explained it is nearly Christmas and I was budgeting on getting something this month to help with costs, plus backdated to when I first made the claim at the start of November.

Again, thanks for everyone's help on this forum and I will update with the outcome.

Are you any clearer how the earnings figure has been arrived at?

  • Not really, but I did give them all of the information from my latest payslip. My wage changes every month so I guess I will have to update them each time.

As previously advised if you willing to post details of your payslip (gross amount, list of deductions and amounts and net amount we can see if it’s possible to explain the amount used by UC.

UC get information from HMRC telling them what your employer has paid you (as reported by your employer to HMRC). You do not have to tell them yourself.

Do you have deductions for student loan repayments?
