Resurrect said:Thanks all. She has now cancelled the appointment & had her £50 refunded, without me prompting further.
I’ve said she can spend what would realistically been £1000’s on a very good camera or to work with professional photographers if she wants.Think I’ll be sleeping in the spare room for a few more night though!!Good result.Just eat humble pie for a few days.0 -
When my eldest two were small, there were lots of parents at baby groups signing up to these things convinced their child was going to be famous, but nothing ever came of it.
In more recent times, one friend managed to get an appointment in London with her young Daughter maybe around 10 at the time? With a modelling agency, again convinced her Daughter was going to be famous, plastered it all over social media that a high end brand wanted her Daughter, then nothing, feel sorry for the Daughter in this instance.Make £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023
Make £2024 in 2024...1 -
A good friend of mine works for a company like this in Manchester and have quite a few children of ''celebrities'' on their books.
If they think they can earn out of you child, they won't be charging you!
She spends most of her days taking calls from pushy parents asking why their child hasn't been used for the latest ad when a rival child (parent) has1 -

Show your wife this. Starts with a £50 deposit and then "!!!!!!", straight up to £500.

My idiot son, and several of his mates got caught up in one of these photo shoot scams. They got lured in by the promise of a couple of "free" shots, with the option to purchase more, no obligation etc, etc. We warned our son that he would need to resist the extremely hard selling tactics, but he came home, having signed up to over 1k worth of pics, payable over a year. After giving him a real hard time, I agreed to help him get rid. He'd signed a contract, but after digging through the consumer contract laws, I made a big fuss about the pressure selling (I emailed them from his email address) and said that I (he) couldn't afford to pay, just as I'd informed them on the day. They tried offering the payments over two years. I then told them that made them credit brokers, which meant that they had to provide a "cooling-off" period, by law. They also denied adding any "admin" charges (against the law if you aren't a licensed credit provider), which I could prove as false by sending them a scan of their contract with a £10 admin charge clearly written on it. They finally admitted defeat, and cancelled the contract. (And he got his two free pics!)He learned a harsh lesson that day, but he's normally a sensible lad and the tale he told was of basic bullying, he admitted that he just signed to get out of the place. He said that he saw one couple leave where the woman was in tears, their business practice is dubious at best. No-one ever gets modelling work from these places, and they only exist to prey on the vain and gullible. Tell your wife that the only experience that your daughter would get from there, is seeing her parents ripped off."I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"5

She made the right choice. It's an expensive photoshoot. If she wants some nice photos contact a local photographer who does family shots or whatever.
I speak from experience. It's a nice day out till mid afternoon when it's time to pay for the extras or suffer the full on selling tactics.
I had a nice set of photos.(still do)..... But no better than I had from the modelling I had already done locally.
I've strong parents who can say no.....politely to start with....thankfully I took them with me despite being old enough not to need to.
I met a different "agency" but these were around at the time and they are much the same. Everyone gets the same nice pictures which don't really set them apart at all from anyone else.

UK models seems to be heavily promoting again on social media. As already mentioned they are not a model agency but a front for Blue Rooms Studios in London. No one would turn up if they were told they were just going to an expensive photo shoot hence the selling as model shoots. They ask for an adult to come with anyone under 22 so that they have someone else to tap up for paying the shoot - there is no legal need for anyone over 18 to have a guardian.
Some here seem to have got off lightly, I've seen some that have paid over £2000 to these for a photo shoot package with website etc. None of that will make any difference to becoming a model and you certainly don't need to pay out for a portfolio like that. Contact a real agency that doesn't ask for "deposits"
Daily Mirror did an expose on a similar outfit, this is exactly the same MO as UK Models

Show her the responses. Personally wouldn't because hard sales annoy me and those types of companies are experts.
They get you lured in.0
