They may well be good and approachable, but nevertheless working from home, as is their secretary, and the receptionist (even if they had access to the info) isn't going to start sharing it with somebody who's just walked in off the street.greatcrested said:davidmcn said:

This is frustrating for sure and no it isn’t too much to ask. We transferred the entire completion amount on Tuesday (had already sold a month ago) and I got confirmation of receipt 2 hours after my CHAPS was sent. The solicitor just forwarded the email he had got from his accounts department simply adding “FYI”.I would be concerned too, I would want to know it’s received.
Incidentally I am currently collecting £6 from the parents in my kids class for teachers Xmas gift and I get messages asking me if I have received their transfer. I always acknowledge.3 -
doesn't sound like a great service if you have transferred it nearly a week ago! has it shown as gone from your bank account? did you send it by CHAPS or bank transfer?Othmas said:

Solicitors are more than happy to charge you for their time. Suspect you would be the unhappy one if they did.Othmas said:Got it. Don’t bother them. This must be the only profession where it’s acceptable to ignore your clients but charge the earth.

You know, I’d forgotten it’s Wednesday today so yes it is almost a week later! Now I’m more annoyed. I’m only looking for a very brief “yes” or “no”. It was sent by bank transfer. The bank said it would take 2 hours and it was instantly deducted from my account. I did call the bank just now actually but understandably they can’t tell me anything more than the fact that it’s been sent.AskAsk said:

when you make a bank transfer of more than £10k to someone for the first time, the bank will need to authorise it. they may hold this for a day or two in order to get someone senior to sign it off. my bank always says that it should get there within a couple of hours but it may actually take up to 3 days if they have to hold the money for security checks. it could be that the money was not sent until 3 days after it left your account but it should have got to the solicitors by now. they can take a day themselves to find the money as they have to ask their finance department to check the receipt. and in covid time, this could mean 2 days.Othmas said:

I would expect a quick confirmation, and certainly would not expect to have to ask more than once or twice. Most solicitors have more junior staff to help with this sort of query.Othmas said:

I have been dealing with solicitors recently and have had confirmation from the assistant everytime they have even sent or received paperwork.

Neither solicitors nor banks treat weekends as working days. Never have done.Othmas said:

Keep at it. Hopefully they will get back to you. Don’t listen to some of the posters here who make up any excuses for solicitors not doing their jobs. Good luck !0
