Stove advice please :)

Options
Hi, moved into a property yesterday with a multi-fuel stove. Leant on it today and it wobbled - looked behind it and the pipe out the back is rusted with a hole in it! :(
Can anyone advise what we do - was hoping to have this working soon (after a chimney sweep) as the boiler is currently broken too! :confounded:

    1. Find a chimney sweep that is HETAS-registered and they should be able to repair the pipe to ensure safe operation, or at least recommend someone who can.
    2. Buy a carbon monoxide detector alarm (if you don't already have one).

Rust could also indicate water is getting into the flue. Maybe the chimney pot doesn't have a cowl and rainwater is making its way down?   Condensation can cause rust over time so it could be that the burner is not efficient and clearing the vapour before it has cooled down too much.  Or it could be condensation on the outside running down the flu.    Liners protect from that.   Maybe the previous owner burnt wet fuel (wood that hasn't been seasoned for example or just put all sorts of rubbish in the burner without thinking of the moisture content)

Are you able to see if the rust has come from inside or outside the flue?

You put this up twice so you are getting replies on both of your threads which is just confusing. The answer is to get it looked at and repaired by a qualified HETAS installer to avoid killing yourselves with carbon monoxide poisoning.
