Yeesh, when you said rust I didn't think it would be in the bloody USB ports! And way more than I've ever seen inside the case too - this has to have been stored somewhere damp, if indeed it wasn't outright drenched at some point.
  • Looks like you covered by the Amazon  "If your not satisfied"  blah blah - so send it back

But don't let that  put you off the Dell Optiplex 7010 as a PC
It does seems to have been one of the countries most commonly sold office business machines, and they are really well engineered and put together - look on ebay you wlll see many, many variants of the same PC being sold refurbed
I've had an i3 based one for about three years now - a 'refurbished' one too  - its lovely and compact and nearly silent compared to all my previous PCs

Oh no, that looks nasty!! I agree with everyone who says send it back for a refund. Occasionally you do get people selling things like that who may actually think that they've done a great job of 'refurbishing' but unfortunately they haven't. Thank goodness for that guarantee.

Have you thought about a nice laptop instead?

Do you have a recommendation, with SSD fitted, at the OP's budget of £125?

    Hi

I ordered a PC from Amazon which was advertised as 'renewed' and would look like new.   The spec of the PC was good.  However it has arrived today, I opened the box and was disappointed to receive a PC which doesn't look new at all.   I slid the casing back and the inside of the PC is thick with dust and I can see lots of spots of rust.
Below is the add (I'm worried this isn't going to last).  I would have thought a refurbed machine would have at the very least been cleared of dust inside.  Will this dust cause problems?

"This product works and looks like new. Backed by the 1-year Amazon Renewed Guarantee."
    - This pre-owned product has been professionally inspected, tested and cleaned by Amazon-qualified suppliers.
    - No signs of cosmetic damage (scratches, dents, etc.) will be visible when the product is held 30 centimeters away.
    - Products with batteries will exceed 80% capacity relative to new.
    - Accessories may not be original, but will be compatible and fully functional. Product may come in generic box.
    - This product is eligible for a replacement or refund within 1-year of receipt if you are not satisfied under the Amazon Renewed Guarantee.
It's not as if it was any kind of bargain in the first place. You just paid for the Amazon warranty.

Pop your own SSD within....for example.

I have a laptop but I really do prefer a desktop pc.  Plus I am trying to start a small business up from home - when I close my office/spare bedroom door, I really don't want to look at my laptop and be reminded of work.  Thanks for the suggestion though.
  • I had a reply from the company 'they don't know how this was allowed to be shipped' and want to offer me an exchange.  I replied, no thanks.  Research has shown this is by far not an isolated case.

Do these PCs work? I think the point is that you get a working PC rather than a cosmetically good PC. They have been in offices for years.

By the looks of it that PC had been sitting outside in the elements for some time. If this is something you'd accept then so be it, I doubt there's many that would find it acceptable.
