Thanks all. It was an Amazon account hack. The Amazon rep admitted that.  My husband had one of the hack orders cancelled by Amazon. The gift card fraudulent purchase did show eventually. Yes, sadly the Amazon account was hacked. Reading the this is money website, had no idea how many people this has happened too. Many lost more more money  than we did. Seems to be a new scam. Won't be using any businesses that uses stored card details with no checks. You have to learn from your mistakes.
It can't be an Amazon account hack if the orders aren't showing in the account. You also can't see full card numbers on Amazon so someone couldn't hack the account and use the card on another account. All Amazon orders show up instantly on the account too - gift card doesn't "show up eventually". Something doesn't add up here.
Do you have some kind of Amazon grudge?

  • I had same thing happened to me although orders did show up on my account and had 2fa as well. Because you can add any address to amazon and it doesn’t ask for 3 digit number on back of bank card if your account gets hacked it’s easy for people to go on spending spree. I spotted my issue at 8.30 in the morning and contacted Amazon immediately and cancelled my card. Amazon said couldn’t cancel order since same day delivery even though three items were ordered and only one was same day delivery. They proceeded to deliver orders and despite telling me to raise dispute with my bank as Amazon can’t refund you directly they have rejected my dispute claim since the items were delivered! I am still trying to sort this a month later! Hope you get somewhere as Amazon not keen to help (and no I don’t have a grudge against Amazon as previous helpful person commented) but no longer store my card on my account. Cannot understand why they do not ask for cvv number for every transaction as then even if your account is compromised no orders could be placed.

Are you sure you had 2FA activated? If so that means someone had access to your mobile phone or a device already logged into Amazon to be able to access the account, so how did that happen?
