Avro Smets2 Gas Meter

Hi,
A week ago I had Gas and Electric Smet2 meters fitted by a company on behalf of Avro, a LadisGyr G470 and E470.
The person who fitted it said that he could not get the gas meter to sync, but should sort itself out within 48 hours.
The IHD is showing data for the Electric but for Gas it just shows "waiting for data".
The lights on the electric meter flash every 5 seconds for SW, WAN, HAN and GAS.  The MESH light stays off.
At first the gas meter was showing a message of something like "COMMISIONING" or similar, and that did disappear within 48 hours and now shows the reading in m3.
I have emailed Avro to ask if they are receiving readings, so we'll see how quick they are at responding.
Is there anything I can do to check the gas meter is working?
Is there anything in the IHD I can do to get the gas data to show?  There is a engineer menu which asks for a PIN number to get into, but would that help?
I realise the IHD is likely to be a short term fad, but I just want to check everything is working for now.
My next reading are due on the 9th December.  I took a photo of the old meters before the new ones were fitted, so I know what the old meter reading were, just worried something may go wrong with the gas reading.

Is the reading in m3 now different (ie bigger) than when you saw it before - if yes then its working. (ie recording your consumption)

You only have a few days before the automatic reading is due - then have a look at your online account.

Always  - even if Smart - read your meters regularly and keep your own records.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Yes, the meter itself is working, the m3 value is increasing as you would expect.
I was more concerned about the "smart" functionality working, as in submitting the readings.
I will continue to submit readings each month as I always have so that I can compare with what shows on the bill.
Avro's online account is pretty crap, the electric meter readings have disappeared, and has 7 pages of no readings.  I'm guessing the online portal is not compatible with the smart meter readings yet, or perhaps the meter going back to 0 has confused it.
However, the gas meter reading are still showing (existing readings, no new ones), which is my concern.  If both were blank, I could assume both meters were submitting readings.

If the meter readings are increasing then both meters are working. You can check if your meters are sending data to the DCC by accessing the N3rgy.com website. No need to sign up, just go to ‘I am a consumer’ and enter your MPAN and IHD number.  You can access consumption information.
  • Hi,
Thanks for that, very useful to know.
I have tried that website and for the electricity MPAN that shows on my bill (I presume it keeps the same MPAN), the IHD MAC does not work and when I try to request a CIN, it says "The MPxN requested is invalid or not yet accessible with n3rgy data"

In the IHD, the only MAC I could fine was under the wifi settings, is that the correct one?
  • You need the GUID which will be on the label on the bottom of the IHD.

    Thank you.
I logged in to the website and could see the reading for both Gas and Electric, so that's good.
Avro also emailed me back (I didn't expect a reply so quick), and the IHD is now showing the gas data as well now.

My Mum's received an email recently from Avro encouraging her to upgrade to SMETS2 meters to be installed by Lowry Beck and to hurry up as availability is limited. Should she bother? What are the benefits? My Mum and I are in the minority of those who give regular meter readings and have accurate monthly bills anyway. And aren't there problems if you switch away after your contract to get a better deal with a supplier that doesn't support smart readers yet?

Hi @[Deleted User] - I've got the exact same Smart meters and exactly the issue described in the original post - after visiting N3rgy.com website and entering MPAN/IHD number, I can only see my electricity consumption. My Gas tariff and consumption appears to be empty and its been 3 weeks since the meters have been installed. Would this suggest that the Gas meter isn't provisioned even though the M3 value is increasing? Or is it simply a case of Avro enabling something on their side?
  • You will need to talk to Avro and check whether they are receiving your meter readings (I assume that this is what you meant by M3 increasing). It can take time for the backend of the industry to catch up. N3rgy will only show data if the new gas meter serial number has been allocated to your MPRN: this is down to the security built into the SMETS2 system.
  • I had both my gas and electricity meters replaced with smart meters in the recent past.
However the display in both meter stopped showing last year and I am being told by Avro and my new supplier, Igloo, that my consumption will be estimated for the foreseeable future as due to COVID restrictions they are unable to replace the meters.
I am not sure how this leaves me.
