paypal problems

everytime I try to log into paypal I get asked to comply with this wretched EU PSD2 Strong Customer Authentication nonsense, I don't have a mobile phone,my phone has call blockers due to incessant cold calls, this means I cannot get into my paypal account without a lot of faffing, sitting by the phone for a BT text I cannot hear. I am deaf. I also have numerical problems, number dyslexic so their stupid codes are impossible.
As we are away form the EU Dec 31 will this unecessarily complex nonsense cease? any one know? Needless to say trying to get anything other than a robotic answer from Paypal is hopeless. I have been using paypal for 15 years without a problem until now.
thanks anyone who can answer.

well thank you for that lack of help; believe it or not I do not have a mobile/iphone or what ever. I do not do texts, my landline which i rarely use is two rooms away fixed on a wall.None of my banking or finance is done on line.Again I am partially deaf 73 yr old. Phone blocks all unknown caller.Plus, no one answered whether or not this PSD nonsense is to be applied after dec31 2020, as its a EU rule its then not applicable to us?Its paypal that moved their tax evading business to luxembourg, not me, their face book pages are full of complaints, hopefully they'll suffer.Sorry to have bothered you.0

Online financial fraud is something that rakes in billions of £s each year and the financial sector industries have to take steps to cut their losses and two factor authorisation is one of the things that many businesses are now operating as standard.
Despite leaving the EU, this isn't going to go away so your best bet might be to buy a very cheap large screen mobile phone and keep this for receiving the authorisation codes.1 -

I have no intention of buying a mobile phone of any kind, I don't need one and in any case neighbours report reception here lousy, very rural, among hills and trees and farm buildings. I do not have security problems, nor do I get scammed because I don't do online finance. I use paypal for the stuff I sell on ebay, thats all. Soon as I can get back into it, I will empty it and close it, ebay now bypass paypal. It'll be paypal problem then. If I want cash I go to my post office.

No one has security problems and no one gets scammed right up until the first time it happens and it does happen an awful lot, hence the reason for the 2FA system becoming more and more common.
Poor reception of a mobile phone signal only normally affects voice calls and text messages generally get through okay even with a very poor signal.3 -

But PayPal is online finance. You could get hacked and lose the money in PayPal.2 -
As you only need to get into the account once to close it do you have a neighbour, friend, family member who could come round and help you using their mobile? Seems the simplest solution.
I for one am grateful Paypal and others now use two step authentication, yes inconvenient but better than losing money.0 -
on paypal on computer you can go into settings and turn off 2nd stage authentication if you wish
which even when set correctly still insists on txt / phone

The Second Payment Services Directive (PSD2)
This is a new EU directive regulating payment services in the European Economic Area. The directive requires new measures that impact how you access your account and pay with PayPal.
