Scam text, alledgedly from HSBC

Just had a text, alledgedly from HSBC. It got fraud written all over it but it’s quite convincing and some people might fall for it. I have reported it to ActionFraud as HSBC themselves weren’t very interested.

I obviously did not enter anything on that website.

  • I'd be very wary clicking links like these, even if you aren't intending to enter your details. Who knows what kind of malware could be lurking in the background. Otherwise you've done all you can if HSBC don't want to do anything with it. Delete the message and move on -shrugs-

Probably a screen-scrape website faking being HSBC.  I've never had that text message and I've switched phones several times.
There has been an influx of texts claiming to be from HSBC.  I got one last month about an "unknown payee", which I would have ignored except that I'd just bought an engagement ring, so I called them (using the number on my card) to double check it and they confirmed i should ignore it.

It's definitely as scam, and the best advice is not to click on the links in case they install some malware in the background.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Good to see that both Firefox and Chrome already refuse to take you to any part of the fraud-team.com website, simply saying that it's a reported "deceptive site". So someone, somewhere has taken action.

I had to contend with HSBC fraud team on the phone.
Why don't they realise that anybody can say they are HSBC (Just as they can say they are from Microsoft, Talktalk, Openreach.... etc....)

To be fair I had a payment blocked a few days ago and a call from hsbc fraud team, probably phillipines. I said I wouldn't answer their security questions and they said just call back on the number on my card and gave me a reference number. It then took ten minutes of hold, speaking to a uk fraud member, the ref number didn't work and then transferred to India where I had to justify moving money to an external account in my name to a very suspicious agent. I did make a rather truculent complaint combined with problems in using the app and ended up with £30 compo so can't complain too much.

Maybe that's the best way to get a return on your saving these days - continually open new savings accounts, transfer money between them via your current account, hit your bank's fraud filters, complain and get a bit of compo. Probably make more that way than the interest on the savings.
