Gear Box Failure on Ford Mondeo Hybrid Any Advice Please
Comments

When you bought did you get any information about when the gearbox oil was changed? This is very important as Ford will not help unless the servicing was done as per their schedule. At 55k the oil should have been changed twice but most owners do not do it as it is an expensive procedure to do. hence the number of powershift failures.
Have you had the oil changed in the two years you have owned it? Service record is no good as the oil change is an extra on it.0 -
Thank you. It has been serviced at the dealership, every year, to their requirements. I will check where this states it has been done. Presumably Ford would have made this clear as otherwise how would an owner know this information? I have all the documents, I can look where this is stated. Also, why would Ford nor my mechanics have mentioned this? Puzzling.0

All you can do is gather as much evidence as possible, get it inspected and then go for an LBA from the supplying dealer. You have no legal relationship with Ford.0

You need to know if Powershift gearbox oil change is changed as part of a scheduled service, or if it is purely recommended and therefore optional (like brake fluid changes, cambelts or spark plugs can be).
Optional items tend to get missed, especialy if it is expensive. If the car has had basic services in line with the servicing scedule in the handbook and optional items haven't been done, that's good enough to be a full service history.
My car's schedule only optional job as part of servicing is wheel alignment. Everything else is scheduled and is quoted for when the service is booked, gearbox and diff oil change is every four years (or 48,000 miles) and it gets done as £200 is cheaper than a new gearbox.0 -

Many owners have had full Ford service history but never had the powershift gearbox oil changed!!!
It needs sorting, perhaps group action? This has been done in other countries.
It is not just Ford, Friend had a nissam micra from new and after 8 years, 36k miles the cam belt snapped ruining the engine, full Nissan history etc. but no-one told her the belt needed changing after 6 years! She had to pay full price for a new engine.0 -

IMO it is worth using Ford dealers to service your Ford. Looks good when you sell plus European breakdown at no extra cost.0

Thought it might be worth signing up in order to clarify that incorrect information has been given to the OP by some people. The veh is a Mondeo Hybrid, thus an Atkinson petrol engine and electric motor, but it is NOT a German manufactured Getrag Powershift ransmission, nothing like it, and does not require an oil change etc.
The Hybrid Mondeo models have an ECVT (which means a "Continuously Variable Transmission"), it is only used in Mondeo Hybrid models but CVT trans are also used in other makes of vehicles. Officially it is a sealed non repairable unit.To clarify on Powershifts - Getrag make 2 specs for Ford. One is a Dry Clutch model that is fitted to low powered Fiesta (also fitted to Renault & Citroen low power vehs) This trans is the 6DCT250 Dry Clutch and this is the trans that gives horrendous probs and cost Ford megga bucks in USA with claims.
There is another Powershift that is fitted to higher powered Fords like Mk3 Focus ST Diesel and Mondeo's (and many Volvo models) This is the 6DCT450 Wet Clutch and does not have the seriously bad reputation of the Dry Clutch version.
So, when you are talking powershift it is worth knowing there is not just one model

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread - I arrived upon this post from google as am helping my brother who has had the same problem, and you appeared to have an insight into the problem. Low mileage 2015 Mondeo Hybrid - Ford have advised full gearbox replacement as both driveshaft seals are leaking. Do you know if there has been any progress or developments in the 4 years since regarding these problems? Google has surprisingly little as maybe there are so few of these cars around.
If anyone knows of someone who works on/ repairs these gearboxes, all advice appreciated. Based in East London/ Essex borders.
