wrong item sent from amazon, do I have a right to not return?

But according to the other similar threads on here, Amazon won't accept that they have sent you the wrong item, because that isn't possible, and will want you to return what they did send you, which of course is a recycling bin and not a computer. Why not keep the bin?(I am of course joking. I think... )4

Its a very interesting point, amazing how their tone changes when its the other way around. Still no word on all those PS5's.

If I was sending back a computer I didn't order to Amazon (via Hermes too), my insecurities would be racing to the surface.0

I wonder where all the cynics on here are now saying this kind of thing just doesn't happen?Manxman_in_exile said:But according to the other similar threads on here, Amazon won't accept that they have sent you the wrong item, because that isn't possible, and will want you to return what they did send you, which of course is a recycling bin and not a computer. I thought, given previous posts, this was a taking the urine post.arthurfowler said:

You really just need to get a receipt showing proof of sending. Don't overthink it, you may talk yourself into compensation and having to keep the item.hihip2004 said:nope - that was actually a concern I raised with them - the ONLY return option was hermes... (I hate them and do not think they are reliable in the slightest). I don't know whether hermes is tracked or not.
They have given me a QR code that I have to give to a local shop to scan.... I don't know anything else about the return procedure and don't know whether it's tracked or not but like you say I really don't want it to go missing or get substituted.
I asked them if they could arrange for a driver to collect, or whether I could drop it off to a local warehouse and they said no.

I'm not sure that Hermes will carry a computer? Also, bear in mind that if you instruct the courier, even though Amazon provide the label, you might carry the responsibility if it is lost or damaged.
In your position I'd be insisting that their own logistics company collect it - I'm sure that Amazon now has its own fleet - somebody will correct me if I'm wrong and make a better suggestion!0 -
My understanding is you have to allow the seller to recover the item. But the seller cannot expect you to pay return postage, and also cannot excessively inconvenience you. For example they couldn't insist on collecting from your home at a time of their choosing that might conflict with your own life.

Hi. Hermes will come and they will give you a receipt. Then the responsibility is theirs. You can have them collect it from your home during coronavirus, you don't have to take it anywhere. And all with social distancing, of course.
I have done a few returns like this - not wrong items, just unsuitables. It honestly is NOT a problem. In fact, we now know our Hermes delivery driver very well, know her name and she's lovely.
There is no need to worry. Once you have that Hermes receipt in your hand, your involvement is over. And thanks for being honest in the first place. Well, you got there in the end.

Before saying there is no need to worry, have you ascertained that Hermes will carry a computer and that it will be adequately insured? Looking at their website Hermes will NOT compensate for a laptop. carry-guide.pdfMalMonroe said:Hi. Hermes will come and they will give you a receipt. Then the responsibility is theirs.
