Replacement Battery for Motorola G5

I have a 3 year old Motorola G5 which I have found to be probably the most reliable mobile I have ever had. It's only 16GB internal storage, supplemented by larger capacity external memory card.
It's about time now to replace the battery which is showing signs of deterioration and I am researching how best to obtain a reliable replacement (not necessarily the cheapest).
I have been in touch with Motorola and they have provided me with 2 options :-
  1. Send the whole unit to their repair shop and they will fit new replacement
  2. Purchase a genuine Motorola replacement from their authorised spare part stockist, IFixit.
The cost of the latter option is £27 for the battery and £6 for shipping via Fedex.
I'm reluctant to send off the whole unit and be without for x days and the cost of £33 is in proportion more than I can justify spending, certainly by comparison to the cost of a new replacement mid range smartphone.
Just wondering if anyone has any alternative recommendations which might be more cost effective?

Buy on on Amazon for £20 or so.

You could go even cheaper with a non Motorola one, but that may come with certain risks.

Either way, it's not a job you need a qualified battery swapper-over for.

According to this it's a replaceable battery, so you don't need any expertise whatosever to change it - https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Motorola+Moto+G5+Battery+Replacement/103229. TBH I'd get one from either E-bay or Amazon
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
  • Was tempted to take advantage of a Black Friday deal on G8 64GB for £140, but you do need a "repair man" to replace the battery on that model.
Have plumped for a replacement battery on Amazon for £15. We'll see how that goes.

If you check on line there's usually a youtube video on how to swap a battery even for iPhones

  • You could buy the replacement battery and also get the g8 as a back up
  • Just an update for anyone interested. Replacement battery from Amazon Prime for £15, ordered Thursday, arrived yesterday lunchtime. Took 2 hours to fully charge from 30% and almost 24 hours later on 65%. Quite happy with that as bluetooth and wifi have been switched on for the whole period of time.

That's poor advice; OP's phone could last another 3 years. When it gives up, or the OS starts becoming obsolete for some websites, OP will want next phone to have an up-to-date OS otherwise it will not be long before that too needs replacing.

Would you have a link to this battery please
I choose the rooms that I live in with care,
The windows are small and the walls almost bare,
    There's only one bed and there's only one prayer;
I listen all night for your step on the stair.

£14.85. So far so good. Holding charge well and reasonable time to fully recharge.
