Depends on the cartridges, some can be refilled successfully others can't in which case a compatible might be a good option, in both cases the ink used is a big factor, some use inks that are formulated to be as close as possible to the OEM so in this case you should see little of no difference whilst others will use cheaper more generic inks that won't give such good quality. On top of all this there is the possibility that cheaper compatibles may not have the latest version chip, which could mean the cartridge stops working should your printer receive a firmware update, this may not be a big problem on older printers but updates are quite frequent on new model printers.balabooberlies said:Hello

I find it easier to buy chipped compatibles .

I worked for a printer company, these things cause absolute hell in inkjet printers. If you're going to do it then do it in a cheap printer that you don't care about keeping for very long.0

been there and wouldn't recommend as had lots of problems with buying cartridges, chips not working and being covered in ink. just enrol in something like hp ink if you have a compatible printer. you won't look back and you won't ever have to think about buying ink/cartridges again"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

okay, off to do some research. Never heard of chipped combatibles. The refill kit gives you ink, syringe etc and is supposed to be compatible with my printer. Years ago I took my original cartridges to a shop that refilled them for you but my printer kept telling me that ink was empty. It wasn't.

it takes 540 and 541
I think I will just have to bite the bullet and pay more for the inks than I did the printer. My mind always boggles at that.AKA : Bala La Boo & Bala Baloo

They can easily be refilled just don't be greedy on how much ink you put in, 8ml for the black and 3ml per colour on the colour cartridge for standard yield, order is Cyan left, Magenta Top and Yellow Right, you will need to drill the top of the cartridge. The printer will at some point stop working and a message on you computer will tell you it thinks they are empty (very long winded message) all you need to do is hold down the cancel button on the printer for a few seconds until the printer comes back to life, there are plenty of Youtube videos showing this process.balabooberlies said:it takes 540 and 541
