I have a question. On buying a house I was told I would get the excess
energy sent to the grid from the solar panels and be paid for it. On
moving in I have been told there is no storage so it only supplies my
home. To say I am upset is understating it. Is there anything I can do
to upgrade them and is there a timescale to claim, if possible? I am a
very low user so feel that any costs that come with maintenance will end
up costing me.

I assume that the previous owner was getting the Feed In Tariff (FIT). This should transfer to you. Your solicitor should have dealt with this as part of the purchase.

Surely, even if there was storage then it would still only supply your home. You need to get your solicitor to chase up the previous owner for all details and complete all the necessary paperwork. Depending on how many panels, your actual savings will be relatively modest in the great scheme of things. Payments could vary from <£200 to >£1500. More details needed!0
