If I was in your position, I would sell to someone who I knew wanted one, rather than return and maybe have a scalper get it, seeing how in demand they are.

As a parent currently looking for one for my sons Xmas pressie, I know how welcome that would be !!! If it is for sale, please message me.
  • So it’s immoral to sell stuff for profit these days? Next time I buy a house I’m going to ask what the previous owners paid and ask to pay the same.

The reason the PS5 is sold out is because people buy a load in order to sell them for profit. That is immoral.
    Debt free. March 2020
    Mortgage free-August 2021
    Planned retirement date- 19/5/2026
    £29500 saved. Target £420000(19/05/2026)
  • My daughter managed to get 2 of the new Xbox, but she only needed one, she has sold the other one for the price that she paid for it, which was the RRP. She said that she could have sold it for a lot more but her conscience wouldn’t let her 😊

At the start of a new console generation games are always thin off the ground, but if your really not happy I'd suggest offering it to someone you know who's into gaming (at the price you payed for it) that were unable to secure a pre-order, rather than scalp it. There's plenty of people who'd be grateful for it. That way you know its going to someone who'd appreciate it and you're not out of pocket.
  • I would keep it since you intend to buy it next year anyway - unless it's likely to drop in price next year then return it now for a refund and pay the lower price next year.  If you see the opportunity to sell for a profit then go ahead - it really is a personal decision about how you feel ethically on this.  Personally I would follow the advice of the post near the top of this thread and donate profit to charity.
  • This is not a moral dilemma. The value of something is what someone is prepared to pay for it. If demand for an item puts its secondary market selling price above RRP then so be it. You should be free to sell it for whatever anyone wants to pay.

If you bought a house and after a few months decided you didn't like the area, would you put it on the market for the price you paid, or the price that others in the area are going for? Same principle applies here.
  • You have a choice of,return for a refund or pay for it and sell it on.How do you think people make money in shops, pubs or restaurants? The people your buying it from almost certainly produced the item for less than half of what your paying,so i would say if your going to make a profit............why not?
I bought a car last week and my neighbour wants to buy it off me for more than i payed............what should i do,it's so confusing.

If people are daft enough to play these games, then they're surely also gullible enough to pay over the odds for them. Sell it for what you can.

If you send it back for a refund (at no cost to yourself), you have lost nothing and someone else will have the opportunity to buy it at the RRP. It is the route of least hassle to yourself too. Selling on ebay does not allow any manufacturer's  guraantee to be passed on to the buyer, so you remain responsible, should it fail in any way, (with no way of proving that it might be the buyer's fault). That could be a major headache for you.
You also say it bothers you morally to make a profit.
So I suggest you either send it back and enjoy your refund, or keep it until the games you want are released - or sold cheaply on ebay later ;)
