  • What do you call someone who makes a single post approx once a week with a post that is designed to create an argument, then disappears to presumably watch the aftermath?

If you store on your PC at home, what happens if your hard-drive fails? Genuine question, I am not up to speed with 'digital wallets'.
A digital wallet is just an app either on your browser of phone. I bought a new pc last week and installed metamask back onto the browser in seconds with my password and seed phrase very simple, would be a similar process with installing an app on anew phone, just the same as a banking app.

I think the cases you read about whereby someone has thrown away a hard drive now worth $400 million is when they have been mining coins. If a hard drive has failed you would seek out a data recovery expert and pray to the Gods.

Also you can use cold wallets which are similar to a thumb drive so you can easily transfer your holdings, disconnect and store in a bank vault, box in the loft, Peak Frean biscuit tin under the bed etc.

Over 7% fall in value today and I thought that the stock markets were having it bad.
Only traders should care about short term fluctuations..
Thought that Bitcoin was a stable currency for the future.  :)
But it is stable. It's been pretty evenly between $25,000 and $75,000 for more than a year now. Trading in the lower half of that window for now, but I'm sure that's just temporary.

It's possible that mooneysaver has lost some money in crypto investments before, so maybe they aren't up to speed with their password or seed phrase either. If their phone stops working, maybe they don't know what the next step is.

Twenty years later, you get your item that is "similar to a thumb drive" out of its box in the loft, take it to your local crypto expert, and they look at you like you're daft. Or just say "nah mate, nothing on that."

Of course, you could easily prove them wrong by...

Bitcoin is stable. 1 Bitcoin always = 1 Bitcoin. It's the made-up government paper money that fluctuates like mad.

If it's not a replacement for cash what exactly is it.  ;)
Remind me who here has ever said its been stable?

It sure does crash a lot... To higher lows..

And Coinbase and Binance announced that they would comply with sanctions and block wallets belonging to Russian broskis. Bad news for sovereign citizen lorry drivers.
Yes, I know, cold wallets blah blah. It still illustrates that stopping the gubment from capriciously freezing or seizing your assets is more difficult than "can't touch muh Bitcoin".
Bear in mind that most of those subject to sanctions are arguably only guilty by association. (Not my opinion - my opinion is that if you get into bed with a crazed dictator it's your problem if he poos the bed - but it will be theirs.) Isn't anyone in the crypto community going to stick up for the right of indivduals who haven't been charged with any crime to access and move their money? Anyone? Bueller?

Depends on the definition of guilty by association. If Putin helped you get rich, then you should be sanctioned. If you are a Russian National who now lives in Lisbon, you don't (and never) supported any war, then it doesn't make sense that your bank account is embargoed, you can't use your credit cards and you potentially can't trade any of your crypto
