  • We tend to have a lot of potato based dishes as dh prefers pasta or rice. I still find that I cook for 4 though - can't get my head round cooking for 3 - so the dog does very well on those occasions!

Am i right in thinking most of us ladies are quite happy to cook for the men in our life - but if its just "us" we can't be bothered? :rotfl:

mrsmcawber - i believe you observe correctly.

interesting: we are all keen that our spouses and offspring eat healthy food, but we don't seem to want to look after ourselves!

I agree, I love cooking for my OH, but when he's away its welsh rarebit or cheese and crackers. I must be pining for him!

Ten days is a long time, we've done similar, and the phone bill tends to be huge (as does the wine bill! :rotfl:)

Actually I quite like cooking for myself as I can be creative without having to worry about whether he's going to like it

He won't eat fish and isn't really keen on rice or pasta so I tend to eat a lot of those whilst he's away, in fact he's going to be away a couple of days next week and I'm already getting excited about what I'm going to eat LOL

HM veg burgers can be oven baked but I find they don't fall apart as much (might be just coincidence) if I dry fry them, most oil I ever use is a spray. It can be a good way to use up any cooked left over veg, I put them in a bag in the freezer, doesn't matter if they are mixed up, chop them before freezing or after, and just label it 'burger stuff'

pollyanna, nope I thought that was normal, won't even make himself a sandwich usually. He'd rather sit and eat a full packet of biscuits or something else like that than make food.

Oh the oven thing, I was running late one night last week and needed to get everyone fed so I phoned asking him to preheat the oven, he eventually following detailed instructions managed that bit. I also had to show him how to use the microave, he went to reheat a meal I'd made and was using the 30 second burst button repeatedly because he didn't know how :rotfl:quite scary really, suppose there is always a takeaway if I am not here for some reason. When I worked evenings he got the kids takeaways, cost half what I was getting paid for a small evening job to feed them all, I think by the time I paid for petrol on top of that I was earning about £5.
One day I might be more organised...........

  • Erm...I don't bother to cook, just get a lot of fresh veggies and go to the supermarket late enough to pick up the 'sale' dips... Otherwise I just make up my own using own brand yoghurt with olive oil, lemon juice, pepper, and some herbs! Lots of smelly cheeses with it too (hard to find a man with a burning love for epoisses :( )
