If you cannot produce evidence of the test I would expect the airline to deny boarding in the UK in much the same way they do where your passport or visa is not valid. The obligation to have the test results ready for arrival is entirely the responsibility of the passenger and unless the laboratory has some form of time guarantee, which I very much doubt, the loss is the passenger's alone

Possibly.  Possibly not. The recent poster does not mention where they are going. Some holiday destinations (such as Madeira) allow for a Covid test upon arrival followed by a short quarantine period whilst you await results.

The question is a bit of a strange one as it mentions getting
a test as recommended by your travel company

Are travel companies 'recommending' that you get a test before flying with them?
I can't see anything on TUI website and Je2 just refer to individual country entry requirements.

Maybe Ma7rt1n could clarify which travel company is 'recommending' a test before travel.

    'Recommending' is different to mandatory.
If a travel company is only 'recommending' a test, then if you have a test but don't get the results back in time, you are no different to a passenger who has ignored that recommendation and hasn't had a test.

I think Ma7rt1n possibly doesn't mean 'travel companies'.

I agree with Alan Bowen that the responsibility of getting a test result with all the necessary details on it is the responsibility of the passenger, just as passport and visa requirements are.

A warning to those thinking of travelling to Maderia and having the test on arrival as opposed to in advance in the UK. I read yesterday of a group of four who went for a long weekend, with no symptoms but to her horror, one of them tested positive and was whisked away to pretty dreadful accommodation for 14 days. The food looked from the photographs to be basic in the extreme, maybe not 'I'm a Celebrity' level of beans and rice but not much above it. On the 14th day, a further test showed she was still positive and she ended up in quarantine for 21 days. I wouldn't risk the possibility, pay for the test here, or don't book!

    Yikes! That’s not good.

It’s not Daily Mail reporting is it?  That description of the hotel and food could equally be what you might get on a cheap Teletext style 3* AI £299 deal.

If weather isn't your prime objective why not try Iceland instead ?
I believe they are offering free tests on arrival during December and  you can quarantine in your own Hotel while awaiting the result.

The benefit of the Madeira system was that the test results taken at Funchal were available around 12 hours after arrival.  Most could therefore arrive at the hotel late afternoon, go to their room and unpack, room service dinner that evening, then awake free as a bird the next day.

Not sure why going to Iceland and spending 5 days in your room would have any appeal.  I doubt few even go to Iceland at this time of year for any longer.

True, they have tightened up on what you can do in the "five days" - my bungle.
