When being asked if u recieve universal credit, should u say yes if i recieve tax credits instead?
I'm applying for the warm home discount and its asking if I recieve child element and housing element of universal credits but doesnt ask if I recieve either of them through tax credits, so should i say yes, even tho I'm not receiving them through UC? Or could this result in my claim being turned down?
This seems to happen on alot of applications

Tax Credits are a different benefit to UC. You cannot truthfully say you are receiving it if you are not.
As far as I can discover different suppliers will have different criteria https://www.uswitch.com/gas-electricity/guides/warm-home-discount/#step0. You may not qualify but providing incorrect information clearly isn’t going to help.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1 -
If tax credits isn't part of the criteria for your energy company for the WHD then you don't qualify. They also check that you are receiving the benefit that you stated.

Of course not, as you don't receive UC.

Telling lies will get you in serious trouble. Be honest. You may not meet the criteria.0

Iv no intentions of lying hence why I have come here and asked if this is the correct thing to do.MarkN88 said:Telling lies will get you in serious trouble. Be honest. You may not meet the criteria.
As they are the same benefit but just under a different name, I was asking if I should say yes, because I am receiving money for them (child benefit and housing benefit) but I'm having to say no because they have only asked for UC not TC, so it seems like to me, ike I'm now holding back that I'm receiving credits that they now think I'm not just due to them not asking if they are TC.
I may just be over thinking it but that is why i have asked here.0 -
They are not the same. They have entirely different qualifying criteria's and limits etc.pilgrims_journey said:

The question isnt 'are you on benefits' it is asking about a specific benefit.1 -
All energy suppliers have their own criteria for the WHD. Some of them ask for tax credits claim with a maximum amount of yearly income. Others don't allow this criteria. Some ask for UC, while others don't. It really depends who your energy supplier is but UC and tax credits are not the same benefit, as has been advised.

Child benefit also isn't anything to do with tax credits.pilgrims_journey said:
