  • I have never had an iva - if you are referring to past posts those have been my sister who infact did have an iva but that has been completed and past years ago. She just used my account to post her queries

Sorry I haven't replied sooner as I was looking after my gran and bo access to Internet
  • Also the credit cards I have on my account are all genuine 0% interest cards well apart from the argos card but the purchase on that is 12 months interest free so technically it is.

Please don't go adding 2+2 together and getting 5. Maybe ask questions rather than assuming

With all due respect here, people can only go off what has been posted under your account. If a post under your name said "I have an IVA", why would we question if someone else was using your account?
  • No problem!

Didnt realise you were all a bunch of sleuths. :) Well in this case no IVA here.
Can you delete posts as that's rather annoying it's associated with anything I post?!
  • right thanks for clarifying
Also that is my intention with the credit cards to have them cleared down by then, infact I could probably clear them sooner I just want a higher standard of life at the moment, I just had to move to escape an abusive relationship who a big chunk of the credit card debt is related to.
Aqua - end of Jan it will be cleared on the 30th December.
Argos - interest will be applied September but I will have it cleared by March
Vanquis - my interest free ends in  June so again that will be cleared before that happens

If there is one reason for, some, people's debt it's that
My, personal, reason behind it was different to yours but it still happened.
My belief is that the moment we start putting higher standard of living ahead of existing debts we are ******* because from that little spend comes more and more and then that's compounded ontop of that previous debt.

You think you've got everything under control money-wise, but your credit history says you don't, and banks have thousands of customers with similar financial situations to you, and the vast majority of them behave in very predictable ways. This data tells the bank you would likely not be able to pay back a loan. Which is why you're not being offered one.

Based on what you have explained, most in this thread agree that you can't afford your current standard of living and the banks are correct in not offering a loan. Your expenses are just too close to your total income without enough breathing room for unforseen emergencies cropping up.

You earn 35K and still can't afford to clear very small debts. I get that you have personal circumstances to explain this but banks don't care about personal circumstances; they care that you've got a good income and still can't manage to clear small debts each month. If this was a mate thinking about lending you money, they would also think: how come they're earning so much and can't pay their bills... I will never get my money back.

Tighten your spending and put your spare money into your credit card balances. If you think you can't then you'd be best to actually figure out where all your money is going, because it's going somewhere.

For free, non-judgemental debt advice, try: Stepchange or National Debtline. Beware fee charging companies with similar names.
  • OP - we might be all a bunch of sleuths as you so eloquently put it, but it does not change the fact that the best way to achieve higher standard of living is to be debt free. Throw EVERYTHING you can at your existing debts and clear them as soon as you possibly can. Once that is sorted just saving on interest will provide you with more cash, no more effort needed. And don't use credit cards as a never ending revolving credit with balance carried over, you can't afford something - wait till you can. Use credit card  and clear it off in full every month, use it for distance selling  or protection or as a travelling ( no charge for currency conversion )   or genuine emergency is ok , use it as  a mean to get something you can't afford but want anyway is most definitely not ok ....
  • You're right I've paid off all bar the hsbc and the car finance tonight.

These debts apart from car finance are 2 months old, haven't added to them.
Made a plan and should have the hsbc credit card paid by February
    :)
