Estimated final bill when moving

Well it hadn't crossed my mind that that would happen, in my mind I'm thinking they'd give their own opening reading so wouldn't be out of pocket too. If that's not the case of course I wouldn't want to do that. The accusations of fraud/theft are just ridiculous, surprisingly not everyone is an expert on these matters, hence the need to ask the questions!Robin9 said:One day Cliff you'll move into a rental when the predecessor has been someone like you (only more so) then the shoe will be on the other foot.. Well how that would that work? Think about it.CliffBonanza said:

You leave the flat and the meter reads 2000 and they estimate it to be 1500 and bill you on that basis. New tenant moves in and tells them the reading is 2000. Who do you think should pay for the missing 500?0 -
Or worse, the new tenant says it’s 2500!bradders1983 said:

Even better the new tenant is same as OP and gives the reading at 4000. Gets free energy at OPs expense?bradders1983 said:

The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -
There are hundreds of threads on this forum about those who have failed to give either opening or closing readings either by accident or design and have ended up with ginormous bills or worse when they've been caught out.
So it's entirely up to you but consider the possibility that someone might do it to you and you end up pay for their energy., your might get a ginormous bill or you could get found out and end up having your credit history trashed or even having a day in court.
What you are proposing is ridiculous not the accusations of fraud or theft. TBH if you felt the need to ask the question then you were pretty sure that it was wrong but hoping that someone would condone it.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers2 -
It was an innocent question. In the post you've quoted I've said 'obviously I wouldn't want to do that' on learning the facts. That you're still in the mind to take that tone is ridiculous yes. Sorry I can't be as clever as you!matelodave said:There are hundreds of threads on this forum about those who have failed to give either opening or closing readings either by accident or design and have ended up with ginormous bills or worse when they've been caught out.

To actually put "obviously I wouldn't want to do that" in writing suggests to me that you are indeed thinking just that.CliffBonanza said:

It's the electric boiler that is the guilty party here, not the OP. Obviously.
