Estimated final bill when moving

My situation is I am renting an apartment that has very high electricity costs. It's 2 or 3 times more expensive than my last apartment, with essentially the same usage (both 1 bed flats with no gas). We got an electrician to check the meter and that wasn't creeping, he basically said the type of boiler we have is the most expensive you can get. I also think there's some faulty appliances that are draining the electricity as it was higher over the summer too. I've managed to get around this by paying estimates so far, which are less than the actual meter is showing.
I am moving in the next few weeks, if I don't give a final reading, will they give me an estimated final bill? Or will the meter reading catch up on me later when the next person moves in?

When the new person moves in they should give the readings to the supplier. To stop them adding on thousands to the reading you should take a photo of the meter reading on your departure.0

Read the meters on the day you move out/or the last day of your tenancy. Take photos. Saves a lot of potential hassle.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
You've been delaying the inevitable and reality will catch up with you when the next occupant gives a reading. But you can read the meter yourself now and do the maths, just so you know how big a problem you've landed yourself with!0

Thanks, I've been paying less than I should given the readings so was hoping there'd be a way to stick with the estimates. Maybe if I switched supplier just before I left, then didn't give the original supplier the final reading, then I'd get an estimated final bill from them then?0

Are you also a fare dodger on public transport, and a shoplifter?Seems this forum isn't for you, it's about money saving not money stealing.2

You sound fun Gerry. It'd hardly be stealing if they were to be happy to issue an estimated bill.0

You're trying to evade paying for the energy you've used, hoping that the tab will be picked up by the unfortunate next occupier, or by all the customers of your energy company. Not exactly honourable is it?1

One day Cliff you'll move into a rental when the predecessor has been someone like you (only more so) then the shoe will be on the other foot.. You'll get no sympathy from anyone here.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill3

Doubt you'll find much approval of intentional fraud and theft here.
Rightly so.2 -
This thread is a wind up, surely.0
