Post Office upsell

I post a few things as an ad-hoc eBay seller.I'm very clear about what I service I want and don't experience any form of up-selling.A clear 'small parcel 2nd class £3.10' and 'large letter 2nd class £0.88' is enough to get me in and out of the shop having got and paid for the delivery service I want.I don't see how you can complain that your partner paid for the wrong service when you didn't explain to him what you wanted. However, I appreciate that this is the Praise, Vent and Warnings board and you are perfectly within your rights to vent about Post Office up-selling here, regardless of whether you are in the right or not.6

I buy my postage online and print at home - the majority of things I send fit in the letterbox, the few that need to go to the post office just get handed over. It's a bit of faf getting the kitchen scales and a ruler out, but at least I'm confident of the price before it gets sent.0

I think you need to buy a calculator as posting at 3pm or 4pm and delivery at noon the day is 20 or 21 hours which by my reckoning is well over 12 hours.MarkN88 said:
I beg to differ. I’ve sent letters, cards, etc to my mum and tend to post between 3 and 4pm and she gets them the next day by noon. Granted she only lives 25 miles away but it is possible as I’ve had it happen frequently.BethRobinson said:Which service got it delivered within 12 hours? Simply not possible.3 -
Maybe they are just doing what they need to d to try to keep their little post office viable and profitable. If not they will close them down and the next post will be complaining about losing the local post office.I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!2

Don’t see the need for laughing though. Bit disrespectful. Can’t all me maths geniuses.0 -
Maybe I do. As I’ve just said I miscalculated. Can’t all be good at maths.DiddyDavies said:

Th OP's item didn't arrive in 12 hours either
the parcel was given to the post office person around 1pm and it got delivered between 8-9am next morning.

Thanks for all replies.
I googled this since and there are numerous results on the net and even from money expert forums that people experienced this upsell technique. One post office worker even commented on one of the posts a few year ago. So it's definitely not something I made up or misunderstood. Maybe it's not done everywhere but certainly done around where I live, as it happened in 3 different locations.
However I've now downloaded the PO prices and from now on I'll check the prices first. I'll also weigh letters/packages and measure envelop sizes. So I did learn my lesson.
Some ppl suggested the PO just wanted to help me. That might be a good argument however they never said something like "if you pay xx extra you can have yy" . Now that would've been real help I agree. The way they ask, it seems as if it were part of the standard delivery. Anyway, if this thread helps just 1 money saver on this forum to be aware of it, that's great. It helped me, I'll always check prices from now on.1
