DPD - not a complaint but a question.

Hi All, not sure if anyone knows the answer to this. 🤔

Do DPD drivers get a signature or ask the name of the person they are delivering to as well as taking a picture or do they just put the name of the person the parcel is addressed to?

Background - I ordered a Tiny Treat Tree for my friend from Bloom & Wild. It was out for delivery via Royal Mail. Royal Mail said delivered but my friend didn't receive the parcel. She lives in a house converted into 6 flats and parcels are meant to be left in the communal hallway.  Bloom & Wild were excellent and arranged for another to be delivered via DPD today. I told my friend it would be delivered and to make sure she stayed in today to wait for it.  She text me at 1.45pm to say not delivered. I went onto the tracking service and it was showing as delivered at 11.43am with a picture of a female (not my friend) but had my friends name as signed for - no physical signature.   My friend went down to the flat where this person lives and asked for the parcel - which they denied having until my friend showed her the photo evidence!  This person said they had been expecting a delivery from the same company.  But it strikes me as odd that she would accept a parcel, not look at it and see it wasn't for her and leave it in the communal area, take it into her flat, keep it for two hours and go as far as deny having it even though she had her picture taken accepting it.

I was looking for a contact us link on the DPD website but couldn't find one.

Thanks

Naomim

  • No signatures currently. Names, well it depends on the driver IMO.
Is there a reason this flat is being knocked on, as opposed to a communal doorway/intercom?

It's a communal front door with only one door bell apparently.  My friend is putting complaint in to landlord as this is the 3rd parcel she's had go missing. She's in the top flat. Lucky we had the picture to prove her neighbour had taken it.

  • Does the doorbell only ring the lady in question who took in the parcel? If so, I can see why shes getting wound up about her doorbell going for 6 different houses. If not, why didnt your friend hear it I suppose.

The doorbell rings in the communal hallway. I guess being top floor flat (loft) my friend is less likely to hear it, especially if she's on a call or has tv/music on.

She's going to request they all have individual doorbells from outside.

  • We use DPD to ship items at work - they do not currently ask for a signature due to COVID-19 but take a photo of where the delivery is on their pda. I suspect the device also pre populates the signed for name from the data the shipper sends on the label.

As for your neighbour taking in the parcel and denying all knowledge until confronted with photo evidence - proper dodgy behaviour!

I have similar issues in my locality - DPD parcel delivered to the wrong address (addressed correctly on the label) - she took it in despite it not having her name on and ripped open the parcel to see what it was.

I knew exactly where it was and went to the addresss and banged on the door, at which point she sheepishly handed over the ripped open parcel. Why she could not have kept it intact (knowing that someone would come for it) or just refused it at the door I don't know?! Completely rude and inconsiderate behaviour imo.

From recent parcels I believe the driver types in the name again as my name has always been correct on the tracking etc, but once delivered and says “signed for by XX” my surname is more often spelt incorrectly.

It isn't just DPD & it isn't just flats.  This year I have had several "handed to resident" parcels that certainly were not handed to resident.  I have become so worried that I may be accused of stealing the parcels myself that I now usually have any delivery made to a friend who lives in less of a rabbit warren than I do.  All these new drivers that have no idea where they are supposed to be, just dropping parcels anywhere.  My apologies to those guys who really try & I know there are lots.  The most trouble I had before this year was a phone call asking where I was - no problem.  Top of ***** only road down, find (specific colour garage door only one around) & you are there.

The handed to resident is a bit of a red herring in some cases, if an item doesn't need a signature and it would fit through the letterbox it will just be posted through but their scanners don't have that as an option so they get marked as handed to resident. The only other thing they could press would be left in safe place but then they have to take a photo which can't really be done after it's been posted, they won't do it before posting as they don't know if it will fit though the letterbox until they put it through.
  • I had a dpd delivery yesterday I was waiting st door lol it just had my surname on she out parcel on floor in front of door and took photo then off she went
