Leak when using shower - through walls?
Comments

we have same problem, when kids use shower water comes thru roof below, but not when I shower, so I presume its coming through tiles.
I shower at end of bath where wall is fully tiled, but about half way down , the wall is half tiled, so I presume water comes through the end of the tiles when kids are showering as water goes everywhere when they shower, bathroom is like a swimming pool after their shower.

The story: Bro wanted a bath/shower mixer for his bath, and I found him a clodding huge Mira Exel which was chosen for its performance with low pressure (vented system).
Anyhoo, living in London and being a twit, he got Pimlico Plumbers to install it for him. Guy came out, sat on the edge of his bath and spent the best part of an hour just reading the instructions and taking the unit apart, trying to work it all out. Finally installed, and bro was down by over a couple of £undred - can't remember the exact amount.
Anyhoo anyhoo, person in flat below brought newly-damp ceiling to bro's attention, so he called Pimlico out again. Guy removes bath panel, sees water running down outside of supply pipes but pipe joints ok, so assumes leak from inside the mixer working its way outside to the threaded tap connectors. Removes it, takes it fully apart, can't find anything amiss and puts it back. Leak continues. The guy is still convinced it's 'internal' so suggest bro calls out Mira - which he does. (Oh, another £200+ for Pimlico).
Mira guy comes out, dismantles unit, find what he reckons is a damaged plastic collar and blames Pimlico. Gawd knows what else then happened - it was a few years ago - but unit replaced back - and still leaked. That also cost a charge.
Can't remember who then figured out what they hell was actually happening - water running down tiles and landing on bath ledge where mixer is fitted, works its way between the mixer base and the bath top (even tho' there was a gasket there) and then through the tap holes in the bath top and down the outsides of the pipes. Solution - a shed-load of silicone (so as not to have to remove the bludy thing again).
Can't remember all the details, but bro was just shy of £1k out of pocket with labour charges at the end of this mess... He was going to claim against Pimlico - not sure he ever di - must ask :-)1 -
Can't the owner just post on here directly? Or has he/she asked for your help and you don't want to appear that you have no idea so you are trying to get the answer from us in order to score some brownie points?
In that case pics will not be forth coming
To find a leak you have to recreate the leak i.e. run the shower over various parts of the bath and tiles whilst looking under the bath with a torch , the leak should then be obvious0 -
Was a new shower screen put in? Couple of houses ago, a new build, the wall was tiled then the shower screen fitted, then the tiles grouted. Water found it's way in through the side edge of the aluminium screen frame, through the ungrouted tiles, down to the room below. Even stripped back you would not have thought water could have found it's way round that, but grouted the gaps, bit of silicone sealant on the frame, screwed back to tiled wall, problem gone.

To find the leak, get a cheap bottle of black currant juice and drip this round the showe. Where the leak is will quickly show up.Also do this again while stood in the bath, as movement of the bath can sometimes cause a leak.0
