Hi,
I am with Shell and the BB contract is over. I have run speed test multiole times and nornally its between 40 to 50mbs.
I am looking at BT and only Fibre 1 is available in my postcode. It is abit strange my parents lives downs the street slightly diffirent postcode and they can have fibre 100. But for my postcode its only fibre 1. Dont know why?
Any experiances with fibre 1, wifi speed and router?
I am using a 3rd party router and mercusys halo mesh. Can i still use that on BT router?

What does your address return from this checker site , post the results, your phone number won’t work if you are not a BTw customer , hence the need to use your address.

If FTTC is available but the predicted speed is such that you would never get more than the lower tier speeds , you may only be offered the lower band or bands ( 40 or 55Mb ).0 -
Different street cab: my street has one at each end.No free lunch, and no free laptop

My post code is nearly a mile long so the distance from the cabinet could vary between 50yds and a mile in the same postcode and the speeds that you get are directly related to the distance that you are from a cabinet and the quality of the cabling.
As it happens our nearest FFTC is nearly three miles away but we are lucky enough to have had FTTP installed in April 2018 so could have up to 900mbit/s if I so wish - however 76 is fast enough for us.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

Hi,

Wifi speed as through BT Smart Hub 2 is good .

Distance applies almost an inverse square reduction to the speed.
Aluminium/copper cables are not efficient conductors for data
Before we got Fttp we got 30 down and out neighbours 20m up the road struggled to get 3.0 -
I was sent a Smart Hub 2 when I renewed with BT and found that I get better performance and flexibility with my original Smart Hub (especially between 2.4 & 5gb bands) so the SH2 is in the cupboard and the SH1 is my router of choice at the moment.JJ_Egan said:Wifi speed as through BT Smart Hub 2 is good .Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
