Cast iron bath removal

Hi
I’m in the process of renovating my bathroom and need to get the bath out. I’ve done the sink, loo, and bidet and capped off the pipes.
I think I can get to the tap nuts ok. The hot is further in and not a lot of room for a spanner.
Timing depends on when I can get a plasterer as I’m still using it.
Don’t think I’ll be able to keep it one piece so might be a sledgehammer job or just get a plumber to do it.
Any ideas appreciated.

If not worth keeping then break into small parts with club hammer.

Then easy to remove and skip / dispose etc

My neighbour told me it took six people to get the one out which now sits in their garden.

Thanks. I’ve got no use for it and not sure if it’s worth anything.

Definitely a lump hammer job to get it down to a manageable weight to remove.

Thanks. Got a good selection of suitable hammers so will give it a go. Some sheets would help too.

You will need ear defenders, and I would warn any neighbours that it will be noisy, if you are going to try to break it. They are immensely tough. It might be worth having an angle grinder and metal cutting disc ready in case you can' break it.

If you ask a plumber to remove it, make it clear that they are responsible for any damage to your property to get it out - ideally they will fit protectors around all the door frames. If they try to take it out in one piece, they will damage something taking it out of the house - they are just so unwieldy
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Stand inside the bath and smash it out. Breaking from the outside in is harder. The scrap value used to be 4 pints at lunch break.

Are cast iron baths not collectors items now? i thought thats what people used to buy at reclamation yards when doing up posh bathrooms.

I know someone who just had a cast iron bath removed. Builders warned about the probable noise, but it just took one decent hit with a sledgehammer, and the bath broke into two halves, which could then be more easily carried out.

You might be surprised. If it is "vintage" period piece, it could be of value to someone doing a renovation - Stick it on gumtree/freecycle/ebay and see if there are any takers.

If you do decide to smash it up, please take the scrap to the local tip for recycling.
