This is where it would come down to two parties disagreeing and the issue being decided by the small claims process ultimately leaving the decision to the judge on the day based on their interpretation.
And so if you are at the point that it comes down to a judge deciding then its very much into the “its not clear” category for me and so its prudent to warn the OP that it could get messy rather than saying its fine because you have the right to check the goods.

With something like the handling of 4:4:4 colour sampling you are honestly unlikely to be any clearer by looking at the menu system anyway (for every TV I’ve know the menu flows are fully online anyway) and much more likely to find an answer via searching online and particularly with the AVForums or AVSForums (factoring in variance in model numbers for US and EU markets for the later).

If you want decent customer service, go somewhere else.
I would 100% agree with this. Took a month of hassling them on Twitter just to get them to acknowledge that, contrary to what they initially told me, they do have to abide by the consumer rights act.

And look at how well they handled the PS5 launch yesterday
  • Hi thanks for the replies, even the nit picking ones. You come to expect that on MSE forums. It's a Samsung TU7100, the budget entry level TV, I confirm that it has 4.4.4. chroma sub sampling. I didn't buy from the jokers in Currys got it from John Lewis instead. I think Currys should train their staff to not mislead customers in their consumer rights

Oddly, there have been a number of recent threads on here about John Lewis also not allowing a refund for a TV if it has been turned on.  Curry's seem not to be alone.
  • That's worrying. I suppose they will blame coronavirus since that is being used an the standard excuse for bad/poor/no/incorrect customer service these days...
  • Surely a good google for reviews of the model you want should tell you if it has the feature or not
    What is the model/number
But be careful with the model number - Currys/PC World often have custom model numbers from the manufacturers to make it harder for customers to find stuff out about the product, even if you want a proper list of specs on it.
