Valspar paint b and q return HELP please

  • The grey on the door frame approximates to the "chic shadow" on the Dulux chart, and the "natural slate" is not dissimilar to your skirting.  But that's me, looking at two photos taken in very different lighting, and viewed on a PC monitor.  If I were B&Q I wouldn't see the problem, either.

@Aylesbury_Duck do you really think this looks anything close to Grey ?

Maybe its my eyes that are off

Granted lighting can make a big diff, but no way is that grey (If thats the bit thats meant to be from the mixed paint)

The problem may be proving that this isn't the colour that was requested

  • Looks grey to me, yes  :)
Admittedly it's a little muckier than "pure grey", but certainly not brown.
  • rubicks cube optical illusion
Reminds me a little of this illusion, where the centre squares on each face are all the same colour.  Context is important.

The are all Pink aren't they ;)
Agreed - context is all important
maybe the best option for the OP is to return to store, with paint, a brush and a piece of wood and demonstrate that the colours don't match
Pretty sure last time I used that service, they show you the colour before sealing the tin
OP - did they do this ?

If you hide the grey of the doorframe then the skirting looks far less murky, there are many shades of grey and between the much lower lighting in the room and they grey with cool undertones next to it it makes the skirting look more brown than it really is. It really does look like you've bought the wrong thing rather than there being any fault with what you have bought.

Maybe it's the screen you are viewing it on, but that looks grey to me, I've looked at it on a monitor and a tablet screen, and adjusted brightness up and down and on all settings on both it still looks grey, a warmer grey than the lighter cool grey of the doorframe but still grey.

Similarly on my screen it looks grey.

Paint some on a scrap bit of wood and take it in and compare it to the original colour so you are seeing both in the same context and light... as others have said this can make a massive difference on how colours are perceived. Similarly with a lot of these things once you see one colour its very hard to see it as possibly be something else.

If its still looking very different to you then complain to B&Q

That's exactly what I would suggest.  Bring it in to B&Q and compare it to the Dulux colour sample.  If the Valspar mix still looks brown (I'd have to agree that what I've seen in your photos looks brown in the photos) point out to B&Q that they haven't mixed it properly or (as apparently it was B&Q staff who suggested a Valspar mix rather than wait for aDulux re-stock) that they've attempted something that can't be done.

If it's not a match to the dulux sample B&Q need to put it right

To get a colour match a colour sample is scanned by the machine and the colour mixed. It may be that the scanning under the shop lights, or the reproduction from the colour chart brought out a different shade.
It does say you should try a tester pot first to ensure the colour is what you want.
