What's an acceptable temperature to avoid putting on the heating? :) :)

It's a peculiarly British thing to have an official start and end to the heating season?
I leave it on at 19C all year round. If the ambient temp should drop below 19C in August, then it will come on. If the ambient temp rises above 19C in December, it switches off.

I have storage heaters so no thermostat. I tend to have my living room at about 18C.

This has been discussed many times in the Gas and Electricity section of this forum. It usually gets stupid posts from people who believe 12C is balmy! This is the latest(I believe) Government guidance of the heath aspects of heating properties.

It is also pertinent to point out that some people think a fixed themostat set to, say, 16C in a cold hallway, means their living room will also be at 16C.

Postively tropicalMy father is in his 70's and feels the cold, yet refuses to wear anything more than a t-shirt (and trousers before anyone comments!) around the house, so ours is set to 25 at the moment, going down to 21 after 11pm overnight.0

Last night my house was 17C inside, so I didn't bother turning the heating on. Today it was 15C when I got home, and I have turned it up to 19C.0

0-5Based on the outside temperature as I don't have a thermometer inside I've voted 0 - 5.
This is because I've only lived in properties which had GCH and DG for just under the last 4 years and was seasoned for not having heat to put on . It was always an extra jumper, blanket or hot water bottle in the family home (one gas fire to heat the whole property) and I carried that on when I left.
Even now I only put the heating on for an hour-ish when it's really cold in winter and layers are not helping.
