Amazon Prime video subtitles

Just starting 30 day trial and the first thing I chose to watch doesn't appear to have subtitles available.
Anyone know if this is generally the case? If so I won't be subscribing.

Most do, but some don't, ditto Netflix., You did try several progs, of course.0

I had a look at a couple more and couldn't see any sign of availability. I'm using the app on a Sony Bravia TV, might that affect availability?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=GYSDCV5YBV4UWQ56 - "Many Prime Video titles include subtitles, alternative tracks, audio descriptions, or a combination of those. The range of supported features will depend on the device you are using."1

Might there be a way of finding if my TV (Sony KDL 32WD603) is capable of showing subtitles on Prime TV?

WhatHiFi seem to suggest it doesn't have Prime at all, unless it was added in a software update. Is this an Android TV?If worse comes to the worse you can always get a Firestick, which will handle subtitles, as that is a five year old TV now and features for things like Prime and Netflix on Smart TVs tend to start dropping off support wise around that point.1

It's not an Android TV. The Prime app is present on the Home page as is Netflix, but this is the first time I've ever used it's smart capability for anything other than You Tube. Thanks for your suggestion.0

After trying out a few other options it seems my original choice (Death Comes to Pemberley) does not have subtitles available. I tried other titles and found that 3 out of 4 had subtitles available through the pause menu screen.

Yeah, not everything on on-demand has subtitles. There is no legal requirement to provide access services for on-demand programme service unfortunately, so you're at the whim of Amazon and Netflix as to whether you get them or not for the programmes you choose to watch. There may be plans to introduce quotas at some point but even then it'll probably only be something like 5% of the content initially, rising over time. Which obviously doesn't help you today.Probably safe to assume anything high profile or Amazon Original is subtitled though. If you look at a programme when you select it you should have the option to see if it has subtitles, or you can hover other various programmes and film on the Video homepage website - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/video/storefront?node=3010085031 - to see if they have the subtitles tag, which on Amazon looks like a square speech bubble with two lines at the bottom of it. Better than nothing, but far easier I feel than trying to figure it out through the Smart TV interface.1

I went to watch something and turned on subtitles which were only available in German
Refused to switch to English or perhaps just not available.

I've found on two occassions that the subtitles on amazon prime were for different content, no easy way to report the fault.
