Not getting notification sounds on Motorola G7 Power

The aliens have messed with my phone

For no apparent reason, I've stopped getting the notification sound with incoming emails and SMS. It's not set at "off" in the "Notifications" setting and "Ring volume" is set at the right level in the "Sounds" setting. Battery is currently at 95% so it's not anything to do with battery saver, and new incoming emails appear as soon as I tap the Gmail thingy on my home page.
In a word - help!
CORRECTION - I am getting notification sound when SMS comes in, but not emails!

Do the normal fix for all technology problems - turn it off and on again. Always the first thing to do.

Which app are you using for emails? I've noticed with the Gmail app that the notification settings for each of my email accounts is set to Default sound ... this actually gives no sound. I've set them to specific sounds now. (I wasn't previously getting email notification sounds ... I'll have to check when emails next come in to see if I am alerted now).
Edit: it worked - I now get notification sounds.
PS - I have a Moto G8 Plus.2 -
The app is Gmail and I'm now wondering how I might check the notification sound for each account. As far as I know, I only used to get notified by an incoming email to my primary account.

Open the app, select the 3 lines on the left, scroll down and select Settings.
For each account, go into it and select Manage Notifications. Click on Advanced to expand it and then set your Sound and Vibrate preferences. Set any other related preferences as you desire.
That's what I did and I now get notification sounds. (I set a different sound for each account. You can also import custom sounds).2 -
Thank you very much indeed. I do believe that somehow or other that's done the trick

Alas it hasn't!What's even more bizarre is that until a few days ago, new emails sent to my primary address showed at the top of the page which opens by tapping in the Gmail icon thingy. Now, to see them I need to hit the menu when Gmail opens, and go to "All inboxes"!!!This is driving me nuts ...We're all doomed0

On my Moto I got to settings, then Apps and Notifications, you may have to tap on "See all apps" select the app and then "App Notification" and tap the button showing Off to get it On.
Also if the email shows at the top of the screen you can swipe down then tap on the message to see it in Gmail.

All notifications are on for GmailI've done further tests and now know for sure that if somebody sends an email to my primary address, I don't get a notification and when I open Gmail, the new email doesn't show on the "primary" list that it opens at. To see the new email, I have to go to the three bars top left, tap on "All inboxes", and there it is at the top of the list!ETA - Now seeking the answer elsewhere, so I won't be checking back to this thread. Thanks for help. We're all doomed1

When you say Primary, are you really meaning Priority? (I suspect not, but just checking).
PS - if you do find a solution elsewhere, please come back to this thread to update us. It's only fair since we've tried to help you.0 -
Gmail opens in the inbox of the account you last viewed/used I think ! but you may not come back to this thread
