Is Plusnet open to negotiation at end of contract - experiences?

Coming up to end of Broadband unlimited fibre (30-35Mps ish).  No telephone package.  Been offered £27.99 pm for same 18 month contract.

Yes, I know TalkTalk are offering something like £20 pm but in these uncertain days would rather not change but wouldlike a better deal.  Just wondering howopen Plusnet are?

They should be able to offer you £21.99 for that package which is what is offered to new customers.

Easily.  Either online (the deal via the members area is bespoke and tends to beat what they can do on the phone) or through a phone call.  Find a decent deal and phone retentions will almost certainly match it or get close to it.

I'm only paying net £18.49 a month - managed to get the line rental at the old £197.88 rate and I'm only paying £2 a month for the broadband :)  My parents have a deal (that I got for them :)) for the next 12 months or so that not only wipes the floor with the rest of the market, but blew the bottom out of even the social tariffs.  They are now paying practically next to nothing all in.  Surprised myself with that one :D

But make sure you monitor your bill when you get the email as their billing system has a habit of "forgetting" about the discounts, particularly if they get applied by phone (but also occasionally online).  I have had to phone up and get my parents discounts reapplied no end of times over the last few years as the system kept forgetting about them - one time it managed to completely lose an upfront line rental saver payment and the last round of discounts it was absolutely adamant they didn't exist at all.

Also remember they record the calls (and you make your own notes), so if they say they will give you something and it doesn't materialise and there's no documentation on the ticket. but you know they said they would give you a free unicorn (or whatever), ask them to review the recording of the original call.

I asked Plusnet to match my best deal on the market two years running and they did both times as soon as I asked. In the most recent case that was about 30% below the renewal price given me, they wanted it to be 18 month contract rather than 12 month but that's fine for me.

  • Thank you all - great to know and thanks for the tips!
  • They should at least match their current offerings for new customers, just threaten to leave if they don't and they'll soon change their miind.
  • It's the luck of the draw, I've not been with plusnet for a while, but I would imagine it's still the same as it is with most companies and depends on who you speak to.

Prime example being Talktalk renewal first person couldn't do anything so I placed an order to switch and got a call from Talktalk and ended up with fibre plus the boost (60Mbps) for £19.95 plus £100 credit and WiFi extenders for free on a 12 month contract.

Last time I was with TalkTalk and the deal I had ran out, they weren't the least bit interested in negotiating.  Kept reeling off the stock prices, with no variation.  So I did what any self-respecting MSE would do - found a better deal elsewhere and switched to that instead.  Never heard from them again (aside from we owe you x credit).

Agree with M1111, luck of the draw, when mine was up for renewal they just wouldn't budge, so as NJ, went elsewhere.
