Help. Got refused a house because of credit reference

Options
Hello.
I've been declined the house we tried to rent today. Paid my holding fee, completed all documents correctly.

Apparently I have a ccj, which because of past financial issues is true but I don't know much about it. I've checked on clear score and it was from 2018 and court was COUNTY COURT BUSINESS CEN.

How do I actually find out any more about this? I want to see what it was and if it was paid but I don't kniw where to start.

Thank you in advance.

  • That would be Northampton County Court, the bulk centre for small claims.

    Contact details on here...

    Thank you very much.

Do I just ring them up? I've never dealt with anything like this before.

Write / phone the court, provide the claim number (it will show on your credit files), ask them for a copy of the original claim form and the judgment.

When you receive it you will see who the claimant is, what it was for and the total amount.

Your credit reports will show satisfied if it's settled.

You would have received several letters before proceedings were commenced, plus the claim form from the court inviting you to respond and then a copy of the judgment when you didn't respond or your response was rejected. (Is the quick version)
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
  • Yes give them a ring and explain your situation, they should be able to tell you what it involves. Are you sure no further details are available on Clearscore? The amount, who it was with?

    Thank you all so much.

It just says that and the case number. I am/was registered at my mom's for years and didn't live there as we haven't talked in years. I know debt is my fault, I'm grown up enough to admit that and am doing better nowadays.
  • Perhaps you should be registered where you do live and make sure all debts / bank accounts / car related items / mobile phone and everything else is too.

Being registered elsewhere only works if you're on good terms with the person.

The court will give you more information.

Although the advice is to ring them, you may find they very rarely answer the phone, however they do respond to email quite promptly, if the former fails, try the latter.

I imagine you would tell me the same although you cannot possibly know what the OP did or did not receive
Our address is different enough  on some databases that some  companies use for the post office to deliver to a stroppy man who lives 300 yards away in a different road  and throws any such mail into the bin
( A postcode check and our door number gives a different road to the road we live on)
TFL sent an Oyster to his house
The idiot girl on customer support told me I must have forgotten to put in the correct address on the website
BT could not fix my broadband for 3 weeks till I raised hell with the Exec office because BT Business listed a different road  CF Openreach.
Santander sent a debit card to Mr Stroppy

You sound like a thoroughly unpleasant individual, although what your little rant has to do with the OP is a mystery.

Maybe Jumblebumble needs to check with Royal Mail what their actual post code is. There is an online database on the royal mail website
