The OP's budget is under £2k:

I'm new to driving but looking to get a car soon.

    Budget is about £1500
Do most people buy cars in cash or bank transfer?

On the links they are now posting they seem to have upped their budget to £5k for a very nice looking Polo.

    Yes. Budget is now £5,000.
It is possible to get used toyotas and vw for £5k and less from the manufacturers themselves.
They even do delivery to your local vw or toyota dealership too !

Comes down to a ford fiesta, Toyota yaris Or a vw polo ( 2008 to 2012 models )

I would need a test drive before purchasing, right ?
Toyota for example can drop the car off to a local toyota dealership which is fine. But if I want a test drive would I have to drive up there first, or could they drop it off at a dealership near me and then I test ?
  • Parker’s and AutoTrader offer very good, free reviews from professional journalists and more importantly, owners. They’ve had the car years unlike the journalist

Done a fair bit of research and it'll probably be a VW Polo or Toyota yaris from the official dealerships . They can both drop off to a local dealership too  which is excellent.

If I wanted a test drive would I be able to have it dropped off to a local dealership first or would I have to go up to wherever the car already is ?

I'm asking because I wouldn't want to drive half way across the country to test a car .

I'm guessing I'd need to contact the dealership directly when I come to getting a car and see what they can offer

Are you saying that Toyota keep a stock of their second-hand vehicles at Burnaston for sale??

Sorry I'm not sure what you mean?

The used cars are at various dealerships around England,  they can also drop them off to a local dealership to save you having to travel
  • Larger dealer groups will be prepared to move vehicles around but you need to be very clear whether there is a charge for doing so. It costs money to move the car, the dealer may take on the cost and risk that you won't buy but if you ask for the service be aware there may be a cost if you don't purchase. If you are paying then you would expect the test drive to be available locally to you. ou could test drive a similar car of course, same make and model, that may be available before committing.
