If it passed an MOT and has been professionally repaired than what's the issue?

Come on, no insurance company in the land will request the windscreen fitter exam the screen for pre-existing repairs and even if they found one would be on the phone the insurers says they wont replace the screen as the client has repaired it previously.
So you’re saying fraud is fine as long as the risk of being caught is low?

Not what I was saying....in fact I have just read my policy documents and it doesn't mention that they wont cover a screen replacement for previously repaired chips, so your whole point is mute.

That's not really the point. No insurer will cover damage which occurred before the policy was in place. The previous repair is irrelevant.
    BTW do you mean "moot"?

It wouldn't be insurance fraud if you created a new crack in the windscreen

Of course it would be fraud.
"creating" a new crack means deliberately damaging the windscreen in order to make an insurance claim and as they would have to lie about how the damage occurred, how can that be anything other than fraud?

Indeed. And my policy specifically excludes "deliberate damage caused to your car by anyone insured under this policy;".
  • Not sure why the age of the vehicle is of any consequence. A stone chip can happen at any time. You have done well to get money out of the dealer. Leave it at that if it passed the MOT. Monitor in case of further cracks though.

or milage. I would guess cars on the transporter with next to no milage can get stone chips as they travel to the dealers etc.
  • The age question is relevant ... in that the older the vehicle (and/or the more miles travelled), the more likely there is to be a chip.

I think we all agree on the OP's way forward though. :)
