Ebay, strange buyer & Hermes issue ? I need help because I do not want to end up out of pocket.

Options
Ok so really hope that one you fab ebay and consumer rights guru's people can help as I can not afford to end up getting a claw back.
So having a clear out and decided to sell an item on ebay.

Bit of background
Long story short not long after it went live on ebay a buyer messaged me asking strange questions. What is the size - which was already listed? Would I take it off sale and let him buy etc. Loads of messages? I said no but because it takes all sorts I responded. Took my time was not offensive but he was strange. Fast forward to the end of the auction ( Sunday Afternoon ) and he won. It sold for over £100 so I was happy. I bought some rug protector and arranged for it to be collected. I did it straight away and put tracking information so they could see it.

Monday afternoon I got message saying that he was unhappy as it had not been collected by the courier yet. Again it takes all sorts so benefit of the doubt I was still very nice and responded ignoring the nasty remarks. ( it was waiting to be collected.)

Fast forward to Saturday and the item was delivered.

Sunday Morning at 7am I got an ebay message demanding to know where his item was.

I checked with Hermes this morning and the driver took a GPS location screen dump and marked it as handed over to the house owner who had exactly the same name as the buyer. (they said that they don't take a signature because of Covid )The buyer is insistent that they do not have it and are going to raise the issue with ebay and Paypal.

I thought this ebayer was strange at the outset so instead of the normal insurance I paid extra for full cover. I always pay for a signature. But not sure where I stand and am worried ebay will say customer has not received the item so give him the money back and that Hermes will say we delivered and can prove it so the insurance is nul and void. It was well over £100 so just want to make sure I am not left without the item or without the money.

I have already spoken to ebay and explained and they said that they would put notes on the transaction. I do buy and have sold on ebay before and have never had a problem so not sure what I could of done to make sure this did not happen and what i can do to make sure I am protected.

Help!

Better off asking on the eBay board.

But if they open an item not received case and you have tracking showing it as delivered then eBay are likely to rule in your favour.
  • Not much you can do at this stage, assuming you've provided all the information you have, including the courier's delivery evidence.  Just let ebay's process deal with it and react accordingly.

Have you uploaded the proof to ebay?  Did you put the tracking number up when you sent the parcel and before the case was opened?
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Ignore that, nobodies taking signatures at the moment, I've had similar messages and the item was left  behind the car

Yes I put the tracking number on as soon as I booked collection so the buyer could see that I had arranged it. Also so he could track it. I also uploaded the screen dump GPS etc , as well as the email where they said that they had handed it to the customer who identified himself as the person I was sending it to. Although after reading the comment from Spank not sure if that means that much ?

Alarm bell! Do report that to eBay, as it appears the buyer was trying to get you to sell outside of eBay (which would make it much easier to scam you ... now they have their work cut out!)

If you uploaded tracking/pod on dispatch and it shows as being delivered (from a postal area/delivery office that is relevant to the buyer) then you will win an INR (item not received).

You don't need any screen dumps or anything else.

    Have they opened a case?

As an aside, read the sticky on the ebay boards - you don't need to pay for a signature (least because in these times it isn't taken) but a POD (proof of delivery) is all that is needed on most purchases.

So I got a message yesterday from the buyer. Back to his snippy ways. Insisting that he did not have the item. Twice in the same message he mentioned that because of the cost of the item I must of paid for insurance. I did. But I have not told him. Instead I simply said that having or not having insurance was of no concern to him and did not change the fact that he is denying hat he has the item.

Makes me sick as I honestly think he is trying to use Covid as an excuse to get his money back and a free purchase. Sick when so many people have been affected.
