Hughes rental

I have some items with Hughes rental and due to covid I have been unable to keep payments.
I have made numerous arrangements I couldn't keep hoping to be back at work
Now on universal credit
They are now threatening court action.
As anyone been through this.
My items are essential items I'm wondering can they repossess them or will they get a ccj for value of items.
Help appreciated.

They could repossess, though the goods will likely have low value.
A CCJ will be the normal outcome if you can't come to some kind of mutual agreement.0 -
What are the "essential items"?0

Hi,I don`t know much about the company itself, but I do know a great deal about debt collection. They will not repossess your goods, no one wants a second hand frying pan or whatever it may be, the value of second hand goods never covers the outstanding debt, so is only ever a very last resort, and only if the goods are re-sellable.The wording of the letters they send you are almost always generic, and in a standard form, outlining what the consequences of non payment MAY be, not WILL be, big difference. If you have been affected by COVID-19 the sencible thing to do is write and tell them so, communication with your creditor is a must in these situations, and will ward off potential legal action, are you not aware of the payment breaks available due to the pandemic ?.Be proactive, even a pound per month can be acceptable, don`t stick your head in the sand, speak to them as soon as possible.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Surely if you are only "renting" you can hand them back, and stop the debts going up more, what are the items in question? If its a washing machine fair enough, but I would argue a TV isnt "essential" in the same sense.1 -
Hi
We have washer, drier, fridge freezer1 -
They have a live chat function on their website, it connected to me in less than 10 seconds, i`m sure you can make some kind of arrangememt with them that will ease your mind, than you won`t have to worry about it will you.

the company know you are struggling , they know of covid dificulties , they know you are on universal credit
they cant get blood out of a stone , and they wont risk £50 on court fees plus solisiters to get nothing back
tell them to collect there goods to mitigate there losses , bet they dont ! ,
listen to what sourcrates is saying

Have you asked for a payment break? I have no idea if the "payment break" thing is covered by this, it isnt a credit agreement as such, its a rental.
In any case if you are struggling to even cover the cost of a tenner a week for a washing machine then I suspect you have much much bigger problems with other debts and maybe you should head to the Debt Free boards.1
