Switch Halifax to Natwest - Halifax regular saver safe?

Hi,
I'm looking at using my (more or less dormant) Halifax current account as the account I switch to Natwest to take advantage of the switching incentive cash on offer.
This would leave my Halifax Regular Saver account as the only Halifax product I have, although I also have a BOS Reward account and RegSaver which show up on the Halifax log in.  I haven't found any small print that says I am required to have a Halifax current account to keep/qualify for the the regular saver (unlike, for example, HSBC) - can anyone confirm that this is the case?
I could just open a second Halifax current account and switch the old one...

  • How are you making payments to your existing saver account?
If not coming from your more or less dormant Halifax current account you will not have any worries.

Well, the SO is set up from the Halifax current account to the Halifax regular saver, but I guess that would transfer as part of the account switch to Natwest, or I could just manually set up a standing order from another account.  So should be good to proceed.
  • So your Halifax account is not dormant?

Halifax probably could. I know natwest/rbs reject payments to regular savers from external accounts.
Opening another account is probably your path of least resistance, you probably won't be able to switch the new account because you need the debit card number & it's touch and go whether you could get that in a couple of days. But the switch offer doesn't require any direct debits, so if it did arrive by then you could just switch it straight out.

As you read, and quoted from my original post - "more or less dormant".  The standing order is the only thing active on the account serving to feed the Regular Saver.

Had a little web-chat with Halifax.
    My question:
"Hi - I have a Halifax current account that has one Standing Order payment out of it to my Halifax Regular Saver. Can I get rid of the current account and set up a standing order from another account to fund the Halifax Regular Saver? I've been trying to find any terms and conditions that answer this but no luck so far."
    Their reply:
"Thanks for reaching out. Yes, you can set up the standing order to any current accounts including from another bank."
So, confusing as their reply is, I think I'm good to go through with my account switch and will set up the SO for the reg.sav from another account.  Hope this helps somebody!

I have had the Halifax Regular Saver for the last two or three incarnations of it, and not had a current account with Halifax  for any of them.  I feed it through standing orders from my Santander account.

Don't rely on this. Internal SO's won't necessarily be switched by CASS.

The Halifax Regular Saver account is open to anyone, not just Halifax current account holders so no need to retain your current account.

I assume you could maybe more easily set up a SO from your BOS a/c since they will appear on the same login?
