So no, the "full amount" is not due because the OP needs to deduct whatever sum they feel is due for the trouble and inconvenience the merchant's delivery of a sub-standard carpet put them to.
I've never heard of this law that allows you to arbitrarily deduct from the price. Can you point me to it?
I would contact the credit card company and not in a "oh I tried and then forgot" way.

If they have an online chat then they may be able to give you direct contact details for someone who can help or offer you generic advice (online chat agents don't always have access to your accounts). If they advise you to pay the carpet shop and then you end up getting charged twice, then you can use their advice as evidence in your complaint.

  • The OP does not have to do anything other than alert the CC company of what has happened.

If the shop contacts the OP then the OP should advise them to go back to their CC merchant and advise what has happened so the chargeback can be reversed if possible. The OP should not pay the shop direct.

If the 45 days have passed then there is nothing the CC co can do.
The CC can not pay the shop. Only the OP can (but I would not pay them till you have confirmation from the disputes team that the shop can not contest the chargeback)
The only advice the CC can give is that the shop did not contest the chargeback, thus they now owe the shop the money. Which would be the only way that the shop would know they had not been paid.
    Life in the slow lane
  • Thanks for that, well if the chargeback cannot be reversed then the OP will have to pay the shop but as you said I would not do tis until they have it in writing that there cannot be any reversal, otherwise you can just see what will happen...!
