I think when you've been on / are going on a weight loss journey - letting stuff go is part of the reward - even if its the smaller sizes you let go. You are making a promise to yourself - you will invest in yourself later when you are ready.

I've sorted the items in the wardrobe to go, and there's a few more bits in the drawers as well.  One of my jackets is a barbour - I was looking forward to getting back into it, but actually its too small and you're right Saving I will buy a new coat if/when I need to.  I'm quite excited to have nothing in my wardrobe that doesn't fit.  I did hesitate slightly when I read someone say they have the next size down clothes, but I've actually got a couple of items that are a snug fit - so my aim is to get them loose and comfortable again.  And the Barbour will go on the bay and should make me at least £60 - Booyah!

Thanks @savingholmes ; I'm taking huge inspiration from the discussions on your thread.  Decluttering the unused; embracing the here and now; and making plans for the future.

So, a bit of a rant.  My jacket is on the bay, and what do I get almost immediately - an offer for the starting price.  I'm not sure why people do that, why on earth would I put something on auction and then take the starting price straight away.  If you are going to offer at the start at least offer the going rate, or more, so there's some incentive to end the auction early.  As it happens there's no incentive, its just annoying, so 'offer declined'.  Rant over.  Its good to see that there's plenty of interest and bidding has started - would be nice to get as much as possible to go into funds.

Now a few more items have joined the pile for charity my wardrobe seems more organised.  Just the drawers to sort out.  My top drawer is really well organised as I bought a set of skubb boxes from Ikea in the summer - I would really recommend spending £6 on those https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/skubb-box-set-of-6-white-00428549/

I'll have a look at the larger ones next time I pay a visit.

Glad it's helping. I put it on there - as much to make me do it as anything else. We all know all these things. Doing it is altogether different. Glad you are making some money from your cast offs and giving joy to others through what you donate.

  • I love passing on clothes as I’ve lost weight. Have a few items of clothes that I’m aiming towards when I’ve lost a bit more though weight loss has stalled over nov / Dec. Really need to get back on it. At least it isn’t going back on.

Thanks Sandy. It's encouraging to hear about other's decluttering progress - as well as the usual £ stuff. I think they are all linked. If I'd known I had 6 measuring tapes - and known where they were I wouldn't have bought one for £5 in November etc... Yes really - 6!!!

Glad you feel you've turned a corner with the decluttering. I can see the improvement but still have loads to go. However if I was being kind I might say I was 50% of the way there compared to where I started - so that is still a significant number. I need to be kind to me more often...

Thanks savingholmes, its been a long journey for me.  Keeping stuff was such a habit for me - don't get me wrong, it was initially stored tidily away, but a house move to a smaller place made me realise I had been collecting far too much stuff.  I'm pretty careful about buying stuff now - and I prefer to shop in the charity shops if I can, and then donate back. My final clear out will be the garage, but I need to be ruthless so I'll be following you for tips - well done you are doing so well.  I'm starting to notice the difference when I do a little tidying now, whereas before it was a drop in the ocean.  And cleaning the house is so much easier when things are put away.  I avoid open shelving now, as I prefer stuff out of sight, and there's less dusting that way too.
