    What make/model is the carrier?
Unless you've got the wider ball facade mentioned (for a special caravan stabilizer hitch) then it's pretty much universal. I'm pretty confident that if your rack fits on it now it'll fit on any.

If you're buying a new car that already has the tow ball, take the rack with you and try it. If you're getting one fitted, take the rack with you and confirm it works before getting it fitted.

    Yes, they are.

You don't have to buy a trailer or caravan to suit your car, do you? The ball is standard...
Whether this will affect the bike rack depends on what stops it drooping down. At the worst you could simply buy the narrow necked towball (more expensive obviously ;) )

The rack clamps down round the tow ball neck and is remarkably secure. I didn't believe they'd work until I'd tried it.

Mine does. I just wondered if the ones for a swan necked ball had a smaller clamping hole to go round the neck.

My 'bike carrier is a Thule 3 bike (in their dreams 3, 2 is a struggle ;) ) it is supposed to fit on anything with a 50mm ball. Certainly fits the standard short necked ball, haven't tried it on the swan neck yet.

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

I don't think it makes any difference; I've never seen any of them mention the neck type.

I have an old Thule carrier that fits either, but needs different fittings for flange or swan-neck.
