No right to cancel internet order

Options
I placed an order with Waggytailsshop.com. I realised the item wasn't suitable. The dog harness had a velcro fastening not suitable for a strong dog and not clear from the description. I contacted them the same afternoon and asked to cancel and told there is no right to cancel an order. I checked their ts and cs and they state orders can't be cancelled other that for reasons they deem acceptaple but have not listed. Their policy seems at odds with statutory consumer rights.

That is indeed an odd site.

They appear to be american (mentions of EST and shipping times), but they also havea UK legal name and claim to run under UK law.

Look's like a big shitfest that should be avoided.

Does not help OP, but people, at least try to see these simple things in a few clicks before ordering from a site. (and if you can;t see them in a few clicks then also don't use the site).

They look like a UK based operation so in which case they are contravening the law regarding online cancellations. I would email or message them on their FB and twitter feeds and explain that not allowing you to cancel within 14 days, for whatever reason, is in direct contravention if the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.

Having said that for the price you probably paid they may well be confident that you wont be going down the legal route to enforce your rights.

Still looks like a US company with a shell UK company to me. Shell company will have no assests and so no reason to comply with the law.
  • I think its a UK company when you look at the shipping times. Fastest despatch is to the UK. The site is appallingly written though, but the trading company doesn't change based upon location (I've VPN'ed around the different countries they support).
However, back to the OP's question regarding cancellation. What product did you order? Did you order a personalised no-pull dog harness? If so, you do not have the automatic right to cancellation as it is a customised product (where you are entering the specifics of customisation - name and/or phone number - and not just selecting from options).
If you didn't order a customised product, then you would have 14 days to return the product after receipt. Their T&C's cannot change that.

That type of harness is available under many different brands. (check Amazon)
The Velcro is very good and does not come apart. We have 2 for our dogs & they both pull enough to pull you over if not careful.
Biggest issue is there is no such thing as a NO pull harness that stops a dog from pulling. Even choke chains still let a dog pull, till it can't breath anymore....

Oh and the personalised name tags are just attached by Velcro. Again check Amazon and other co's where you can buy any name etc you want on them.

  • Is OP talking about a Julius-K9 style of harness?

They work very well, and as mentioned above the Velcro isn't a problem. (It lies against the dog's chest, so as the dog pulls it actually presses the two Velcro halves together).

Have you tried a halti head harness? Sure the dog can try and pull you still, but it just leads to them being turned around. It's worked well for a few dogs I know - huskies, a rottweiler and a golden retriever.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

I would only advise such harnesses for short periods of training - otherwise I consider them to be in the category as shock collars.  They are often uncomfortable for the dogs and a dog can wrench its neck badly if they, for example, see a cat and decide to go chasing.  I know of one owner who ended with a very large vet bill when this happened.

The ones shown in the OP is very similar to what we have for one of our dogs and is very good.
