i currently have a 512k broadband and cant really get a very good connection for p2p. i assume if i upgrade to 2meg i would get a decent p2p connection, but i'm not really sure how this works.
Does anybody know about this?

whilst upgrading your speed may make some difference you still can't get past the fact that it is relying on other peoples connections not just yours. Even with the top level speeds you still have limits of what can be provided to you by others.0

Some broadband companies offer a "fair usage" policy, which in brief means they monitor p2p connections to "certain" applications and u will get slow downloads. A good example is PlusNet. Never got above 10k on a 2meg line!

You need to find an ISP that doesn't "traffic shape" ie strangle p2p traffic - http://www.fast.co.uk/ say they don't.
Newnet doesn't traffic shape either and is Martins bust buy for this type of ISP http://www.newnet.co.uk/broadband/homelite.php0 -
has anybody used newnet or be for p2p?
be is in my exchange, dont think newnet are there yet, should i take that in to consideration?
thanks for all your comments0 -

Martins best buy is an ISP that offers 3GB pm cap?
Thats not useful for anyone wanting to use p2p.0 -
i asked BE about their p2p policy, they replied:
"we have members with over 1000Gigs usage per month.
There are no download caps, no peak times or traffic shaping. Our contention ratio is 1:1"
that sounds pretty good, does anybody know how you know how mant gigs you have used?0 -
See the "invisible" sticky at the top of the page.
Once set up it can give you a projection for future usage.

for p2p i recommend entanet (adsl24, vivaciti etc..) no port blocking/application shaping, 330gb/month instead or 3 is a bit more useful, thinkbroadband comparison here. or , for lower usage idnet is very good, but if BE is available to you they have users pulling 1Tb/month or more (1000Gb)Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0
