I'm wondering if it is due to Brexit.
There is an EU regulation (206/2009) which prohibits or restricts the imports of many animal related products from third countries (countries not in the EU) and animal skins and leather are on the list.
Well, as far as I know, we aren't one officially yet.

We aren't (yet) but this doesn't mean that some businesses such as courier companies haven't changed their procedures earlier than required.
Although we have officially left the EU but are still covered under the relevant legislation and procedures, there may be a lot of confusion in some companies and they could have taken the easy route and simply started treating the UK as a "third country".

Very odd.  Hermes are the mail order couriers for Next - who sell leather handbags, shoes and clothes.  Or do they only deliver non- leather goods?

No it seems that 'Landmark leather' is a special kind of leather.

Large retailers can negotiate their own terms with carriers to deliver otherwise restricted items.  It does not mean that anyone else can send these things as a result.
